Avalanche section

I don't know if the avalanche section about the event early this year is really all that notable. I personally don't think it should remain. No one was killed and I bet there are avalanches in the area every year. I will wait a few days or so, and if no one objects, I will remove the section. JeffreyN 23:35, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

The avalanche was rather large and unprecedented for that area - avalanches are common there, but never one that big. I think there should be a mention about it in the article somewhere, though I'm not sure that it was notable enough to warrant its own section. Perhaps remove the section and a line to the paragraph about Highway 40 to the effect "The highway is occasionally closed due to avalanche activity. The largest recorded occured on (whatever date), measured (how ever many feet) across, and crossed the highway in three different places. Cars were swept from the road but there were no fatalities." Maybe the section could be labeled Avalanche history and a few summary paragraphs provided for the few events for which cites are available. I'm thinking like what is in Mount Hood#Incident history. —EncMstr 22:06, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Avalanches, though unfortunate, are still common in the backcountry. Individual avalanche reports are available from CAIC (Colorado Avalanche Information Center). Listing every single one on relevant articles is a bit insane, IMHO. This is old, but I'm going to remove it later if there are no objects. 24.3.60.243 (talk) 22:55, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Encyclopedia article or advertisement?

Parts of this article read a bit like an advertisement for the Friends of Berthoud Pass. The language gets a bit florid and self-congratulatory in places.
