Bengkulu (city)Bengkulu City – The official name is Kota Bengkulu [1], so it is fine to call this article "Bengkulu City" instead of "Bengkulu (city)". This is shorter and more natural and can be used in written text. It is also done so for the Kabupaten: "Kabupaten Bengkulu Selatan" becomes "South Bengkulu Regency". Note: If the province article is moved, then the city article could go to Bengkulu. Like is the case with Yogyakarta. AsianGeographer (talk) 22:57, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment Not at all sure about this one. It is not usual in English to include City in the name, unless it is widely known as such, as in the case of New York City or Salt Lake City. I don't really think that applies in the case of Bengkulu, which would usually be referred to simply by that name, no matter what its official name is in Indonesian. If anything should be moved, it would probably make more sense to move this article to Bengkulu, and to move the article currently under that name to Bengkulu Province. • Comment I see there is now a requested move for Bengkulu to Bengkulu Province. It might be an idea to either put the city move on hold until that is sorted or, perhaps even better, to couple the two into the same move request. Skinsmoke (talk) 22:44, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose The title of an article should clearly reflect the most common name of the topic. In this case the name is "Bengkulu", and it's disambiguated parenthetically with "(city)". That's fine. By removing the parentheses we would be incorrectly conveying the name to be "Bengkulu City". That would beconfusing, misdirecting and unacceptable. --Born2cycle (talk) 20:30, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sourcing

edit

While Roberts, Edmund (1837). Embassy to the Eastern Courts of Cochin-China, Siam, and Muscat may be a document of interest to historians, it certainly isn't appropriate to use it as a source in this article, in the way it is being used. 183-year-old sources aren't generally considered WP:RS for anything other than perhaps attributed quotations from the author. 165.120.15.66 (talk) 07:15, 16 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Serang city

edit

For some unknown reason the Administrative Districts section of this article on Bengkulu city gives details of Serang city (in Banten province) instead of any information about Bengkulu. I am deleting this (the info is already in the appropriate article on the city in Banten) and substituting data on Bengkulu city. Rif Winfield (talk) 16:26, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
