ANCHOR This past election brought not only the presidential contest to its conclusion, but also the most recent incarnation of thestruggle over gay rights. Bans on gay marriage in 3 states, Florida, Arizona, and California, as well as a ban on adoption by unmarried couples in Arkansas, were all on the ballot this past november. While the overall results of the election were fairly liberal, with the democrats taking the White House and maintaining the house and the senate, all 4 of the proposed bans were passed. This was undoubtedly a serious blow to the gay rights movement.

CO-ANCHOR Yes, and it was probably a bittersweet moment as well, with a democrat in the White House after 8 years, not to mention the first black president, but at the same time suffering such a loss in states like California.

ANCHOR Of course on the other hand it does give the conservatives a bit of a victory in what was otherwise a very bad year for them.
