Places of some interest:

The old Jo-Anne's Restaurant on rt. 126 near the police station is now closed, but is reported to be haunted by a man from the civil war era.

Ma Glockner's Restaurant on Maple Street is famous for their chicken dinners and cinnamon buns. People come from all over just to have dinner here. http://www.maglockners.com/

Regal 14 Movie Theater: Right off the 495 exit, in the Right lot behind Pier One Imports.

The Chowder Bowl Restaurant open seasonally, serves Red and White Chowder, Clam Cakes, and fried fish. Located on lake Hiawatha.

Yearly events:

Memorial weekend Parade. Runs from the High school to the Common, most of Main Street / rt. 126 is closed from Blackstone St. to Hartford Ave the afternoon of the event.

Concerts on the common. Once weekly during the summer a free concert is held on the common. Check the town notice board at Hartford & N. Main seasonally for more information.

Fourth of July concert and Fireworks on the high school Football field. A small time, themed (usually a cover) band is hired; food is sold as well as novelties. There are some activities varying from year to year, as well as the fireworks themselves. Come very early, park at the high school if they allow you, and bring the kids and a lawn chair. Be prepared for very heavy traffic after the show.

Christmas Tree Lighting on the common. The high school chorus sings holiday songs, Santa makes an appearance, and there is a small ceremony.

Crimpville Comments

edit

Does anyone have access to a small privately producted publication from the mid 1970's called "Crimpville Comments"?

This 4-6 page monthly news letter was produced by the former owner of Mike's Variety store (deceased) and the store, once located at the intersection of North Main (Rte. 126) and High St., is also no longer there.

The publication was distributed in the local schools, and featured many articles about life in the area more than 100 years ago, often highlighting railroad news durring the golden age of steam. The centerfold was almost always a class graduation picture from Center school, or south school, at the turn of the century.

The name Crimpville was the old village name for the north/central part of town, while Carryville was the name of the southern end of town. Lefick (talk) 15:00, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
