Cannibalism? edit

The Cannibalism (zoology) article seems to indicate that a significant degree of cannibalism is present in this species. Does anyone have any additional information on that? -Rikoshi (talk) 08:55, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Taxonomy edit

The sources cited in the article all link to recent scholarly sources using Spermophilus as the species. Any reasons why I should leave it Urocitellus, before changing it? edit: I'll check the sources on the Urocitellus page before making any changes here. I might just add them to this page's references if they're newer research. --Justin (talk) 14:29, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

The change to Urocitellus is recent but well-supported. See doi:10.1644/07-MAMM-A-309.1. Ucucha (talk) 15:21, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

http://archive.org/stream/naturalhistoryof00grin/naturalhistoryof00grin_djvu.txt: "This species [BELDING GROUND SQUIRREL] of ground squirrel was named after Lyman Belding, an early resident of Stockton and a naturalist of considerable attainment. Belding found it in the summer of 1885 in the vicinity of Summit, Placer County, and sent a specimen to Dr. C. Hart Merriam, who later (1888) described the species, calling it Spermophilus beldingi." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.50.137.129 (talk) 18:33, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
