Requested move 26 August 2019 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: disambiguate. Consensus to make Capital Airlines a disambiguation page, keep Beijing Capital Airlines where it is, and disambiguate the US airline as proposed. (non-admin closure) Colin M (talk) 18:08, 12 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

– The airlines is called just "Capital Airlines" and not "Beijing Capital Airlines", as you can see in the logo or in the airline website. The old Capital Airlines should be also moved to "Capital Airlines (United States)" Wind of freedom (talk) 02:45, 26 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose, almost but no. Ambiguous. The ambiguity is why sources routinely use the natural disambiguation, appending the base city, to Beijing Capital Airlines. Do not have Capital Airlines redirect here, that is an obvious invitation for bad links to be made, with no benefits. Create a TWODABS, and move the old Capital Airlines to "Capital Airlines (United States)" as it is ambiguous. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 08:14, 26 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • @SmokeyJoe: Ok, but the title should be the brand name, and not the official name. As you can see, the airline never uses "Beijing" on its brand, but only on legal name. For example Lufthansa official name is "Deutsche Lufthansa AG" but the page is called just "Lufthansa". --Wind of freedom (talk) 00:25, 27 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
      • Capital Airlines (Beijing)? Sources do call it "Beijing Capital Airlines", suggesting this is acceptable. However, it suggests that this is the brand name, which it is not. Chinese sources, all of which assume familiarity with it being Beijing-based, just call it "Capital Airlines". The Chinese will think it is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Capital Airlines", but Americans with domestic airline history knowledge will disagree. Disparate reader groups having conflicting PT expectations are a good reason to declare no primarytopic, so it is a question of how to disambiguate. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:39, 27 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
        • @SmokeyJoe: Ok, but if the company is known as Capital Airlines, the name Beijing is not correct in the title. We could call it "Capital Airlines (China)" and "Capital Airlines (United States)" and "Capital Airlines" be a disambiguation page. --Wind of freedom (talk) 23:32, 27 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
          • No. “Beijing” is the overwhelming disambiguator used by sources. Beijing is as recognizabile as “China”. Beijing is the “Capital”. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 23:37, 27 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Oppose first, not the primary topic, there is no primary topic. Beijing Capital Airlines is acceptable. Capital Airlines (Beijing) is an option preferable to Capital Airlines (China)
Support second, Capital AirlinesCapital Airlines (United States)
Support creation of WP:TWODABS disambiguation page, due to two independent topics unaware of each other.
