Hey RV, should the page only deal with currently produced beer? Moriori 07:59, Dec 12, 2003 (UTC)

Yep, but let's allow "Billy Bear as the one exception. 25 February 2005.

Hi Mori,

its a personal decision, this place is run by the people hehe. In my humble opinion, I would think that only currently produced and consumed beer would be valid. However out-of-production brands could be added with an accompanying explanation.

have a great day!

should there really be links to corporate pages from a wikipedia "list" page? i.e the "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" link? Isn't it betterto put them at the end of actual articles? Marxmax

Purpose of this article

I've just completed a major edit of this List article in which I removed all the red links, and redirected people's search to the appropriate categories. My view is that as it stood, it was long, unhelpful, full of red links or links that went to the wrong places. It was encouraging people to simply list beers that they were aware of, rather than creating articles. The appropriate place for requesting articles is here: Wikipedia:Requested articles. In the meantime, huge lists of commercial brands of beer can be found on such sites as BeerAdvoate and RateBeer. As it stands now, the article appears to me to offer a more user friendly way of getting to the brands of a region that the category: Category:Beer and breweries by region, and it may as such serve a useful purpose as an alternative route to the beer brands detailed on Wiki. Other people's thoughts are welcome. SilkTork 00:50, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

My view on the other hand, which sparked the need for this discussion to come up after a short talk with SilkTork, is that although the topic was long, cumbersome, and full of red links, the alternative (what you see now) no longer feels like a list article. Instead, it looks and feels like a customizable category. The page no longer contains any direct information, only links to categories. Due to the links, there will rarely ever be a need for the page to be updated, which is unusual for any WP article. Though this is far more organized, I cannot use this page to directly look up information usually found in a list article (a "List of tv episodes" article would giving the names and descriptions of all episodes in a series). Instead, you come here and instantly have to go somewhere else like a soft redirect... or at least that is how the change in this article feels to me. — CobraWiki ( jabber | stuff ) 07:55, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Vote Current or Previous. The best way, as always, to settle which is the better, more effective, more efficient, and more proper style for the article (since the styles are so different) is through a discussion in hopes of reaching a consensus. Compare the current article style (NEW) with the previous style (OLD) and give your views on both and which you believe is the better choice. — CobraWiki ( jabber | stuff )

Previous, or even Split. The current list is one of countries in which beer is commercially brewed. It could sure go into a separate list, but the name of this list suggests it should list the actual brands. If we don't like the red links, then let's not use links unless there's something to link to. Suede 12:54, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

There are two other suggestions, both of which I considered. One is that the article be renamed to remove the suggestion that it is a list. It is an awkward title anyway because a "brand" is already "commercial". My suggestion would be "Beer brands", and then create an article about the development of beer brands, using links to notable examples. The other suggestion is to delete the article. As CobraWiki points out, the article as it stands now is simply standing in for the main category. I see some value in that for those people who might find a category and all the subcategories difficult to sort through, but it is after all a substitute.

I don't think returning it to what it previously was is in any way a viable option. It appeared to serve little or no purpose, other than as a place where people could list beers of which they were aware. It was a mass of red links, dead links and incorrect links. Very few of the beers listed actually linked to beers we have on the site. There was no information about the beers, other than a name, such as Pilsner or Millenium. It was not a comprehensive or useful list - simply a random selection of beer names. I would be interested to hear what use people made of it previously. SilkTork 08:33, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Portugal

Seems to be POV. "Portuguese beer is considered very good,"; considered very good by whom? I don't think this should be included; or else, perhaps worked upon.--The Individual 05:31, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

TOC

I believe that this article needs to be indexed by Letter, then Country. Even use a horizontal TOC to save space.--Nis pero 05:50, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I think I tried doing that at one point, but didn't have any luck with it (or wasn't technically skilled enough) ;) -- if you know how to do it, I tend to agree that it's necessary, and would like to see how it actually looks. --Daniel11 03:59, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Irish beer

Shouldn't the "Irish beer" link be moved out of the United Kingdom section? (Or else erase the "Ireland" section, but of course I think the first option is far better).--L'irlandés (talk) 21:56, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Ordering

Africa should be above the Americas as its first Alphabetically and the rest of the list seems to be alphabetical.(86.156.207.116 (talk) 23:45, 15 May 2008 (UTC))

I propose that a new section on the USA is added and List of Ohio breweries is merged there. Duplicate sub-lists as separate articles seem unnecessary. (talk) 23:09, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

If so, it would have to include all those under the List of US breweries and not Ohio breweries alone.--Chimino (talk) 13:02, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
This list of Ohio breweries is in the correct place 65.189.28.193 (talk) 02:09, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Redundancy

Sections below the nice link table are incomplete, in one hand (as not all countries described), and also redundant (as they duplicate the national articles already linked above). I'm afraid I'll be bold enough to clean this out in a few months time. Wishes, Ukrained (talk) 00:11, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
