Wiktionary has now removed the detail on the origin of Beckwith in its usage as an English surname. Original entry as follows:

  • Beckwith is a surname with two distinct English habitational origins. From southern England comes the meaning "by a brook or stream". Beckwith, West Yorkshire derives from Old English bēce ‘beech’ and Old Norse viðr ‘wood’.
