Francis Beaufort
editA few news sources say that the feature is named after Irish hydrographer Francis Beaufort, which seems plausible, and one even goes as far to say that he discovered it. I can't find any strong evidence of either, though. Is there any genuine connection?
An 1856 publication attributes its discovery to a Captain Beechey, presumably (although I haven't yet seen a source that explicitly says so) Frederick William Beechey.--Lord Belbury (talk) 23:15, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
