I recently changed the stub tag on this article, to reflect that it is a short comedy, because the template {{short-comedy-film-stub}} populates a category that is a child of both Category:Short film stubs and Category:Comedy film stubs. Lugnuts added the template {{1930s-comedy-film-stub}} back to the article, stating that "not all short comedy films are from the 1930s, and vice versa". While I understand that logic, I've always maintained that the only reason to add the decade to a stub tag, is when the parent category is too large and needs to be diffused. Therefore, I believe it's redundant to have two comedy stub tags on the same article, just to show that it is from the 1930s, when the article is already included in Category:1930s comedy films and Category:1930s short films. Not all short comedy films are from the 1930s and not all 1930s comedy films are short films. I don't see a problem. You had a similar issue not to long ago with stub tags on Canadian films too. LugnutsDick Laurent is dead 19:07, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
I understand the difference, I just don't see the advantage of doubling up on stub tags from the same genre, just to show what decade a film is in, when the article already has categories for that purpose. Fortdj33 (talk) 19:19, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
So that a motivated editor who may be working on improving stub articles about 1930s films won't miss a whole batch of them just because they're Canadian, and vice versa. More than two tags can be overkill but just two should be fine. - Dravecky (talk) 14:40, 22 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
