Time to Semi-protect?

Just wondering what you guys think about protecting/semi-protecting this article? What with 4chan's love of barrel rolls, free wii remote straps and all things Battletoady I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to get all the grammar neat, get a few sources in- generally just do a little housekeeping and then get this article protected- seems like half the recent edits have just been reverting vandalism.Himynameishelen (talk) 19:46, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Beetleborgs?! What?!

Near the beginning it states "This game was made to rival the television show "big bad beetleborgs". Excuse my language, but... what the hell?! How does this even come close to anything that could possibly be believable in any universe on this earth? Not only is the mere connection, somehow, to that television show absolutely nonsensical, but Battletoads resembles absolutely nothing about that show. That, along with this being insane wild speculation with the reasoning ability of a 13-year old, with absolutely no citation to back this up in any way, is ludicrous. I am totally removing that. What a stupid statement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.208.54.108 (talk) 08:51, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey, again.. well, nevermind, I guess. Some genius decided to not allow me to change anything on Wikipedia, so that I can "improve the article" as Wikipeida is always asking for. So much for trying to help, then. Enjoy your unverified, ridiculous misleading info about Battletoads, I guess. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.208.54.108 (talk) 08:55, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Confusing, unorganized article

This article is a mess. This is supposed to be the page for the series in general right? But the articles focuses mainly on the NES version and mentions things specific to that version only. Shaolin Samurai 05:05, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Heights and weights

A source that shows these characters' weights, not just their heights, conflicts the one used here by making Pimple and Rash taller... But they do include weight... I found that data in a japanese page searching Zitz' and Rash's weight... I did not understood what it said so I can't say it's official in any way but at it list it's more precise... So if someone could give full official info... It would be great.

Difficulty aside, it is, in the opinion of this humble contributor, one of those rare games that is pure fun, and quite possibly the best NES game ever.

This doesn't seem encyclopedic at all, true as the statement may be. Any other thoughts?--Benfergy 03:52, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC)

I appreciate that he at least tried to maintain the NPOV, but this certainly doesn't need to be here for the reader's edification. --Charles M. Reed 18:31, May 20, 2005 (UTC)

Difficulty of ports

The Genesis port of this game is, while still very hard, much easier than the NES version; the difficulty was obviously altered intentionally. I feel that this is worth noting in the article, but since it is based on my own playing experiences, it is original research. Anyone know if Sega required that the Genesis port's difficulty be toned down to allow it, or what else the reason for this is? --Graue 21:47, 22 July 2005 (UTC)

I added a mention anyway, as it's fairly obviously easier. --Graue 15:34, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

2D and 3D

A third of the levels is three-dimensional. The game should be classified as 3D, don't you think? previous comment by 66.250.54.139

None of the levels are actually 3D. --Pagrashtak 01:20, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

The 3D levels you speak of are actually called 2.5D generally.

Arcade Verson

The Arcade Verson had good music useing the bsmt 2000 sound chip. --JoeTheDragon

Where's article on Dark Queen?

Some minor bosses have their own.

It's my opinion that this game was too minor to merit multiple pages. It barely merits having this one.Himynameishelen (talk) 19:47, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Is it possible for the 'toads to be in it?

Although anything's possible with the right licensing agreements, it's highly unlikely. Smash Bros. primarily features Nintendo creations only. Snake is simply in there because Kojima volunteered it. So don't hold your breath. -Jacquismo 03:37, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Rare split from Nintendo and went with Microsoft. Nintendo did get to hold onto some games Rare produced using Nintendo licensed characters, but I don't think they retained the Toads. You'd be more likely to see a new BT game show up on the X-box. Hewinsj 06:49, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Why Japanese?

Why the game's name in Japanese given if Rare is a UK based company? It's a bit misleading.

Yeah, I don't get why that has to be done on every video game, particularly if it's from UK/US companies.--4.244.33.90 19:53, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

-- I think it should be removed, since it wasn't made in Japan. It makes as much sense as sticking other languages' names on it. Torte 12:05, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

article can include memorable game quotes

The dialogue in the game is quite good. The quotes are noteworthy. How about including these?

How are any quotes from the game noteworthy? I can't remember a single quote of the dialogue from any game in the series. Unless it's had an effect on popular culture somehow or there's some widely-used quote lurking on the Internet, there's no need for any game dialogue here. It's more important at this point to actually make this into a good article first before adding more fluff. -Jacquismo 03:40, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

About the Clinger-Wingers glitch (player 2 dies on level 11)

The glitch is fairly well known. Information can be found here (and it can be verified in the accompanying movie). Player 2 does not move on that level, and because the level is a race away from a spinning spiral thing whose name I am not aware of at all, he will die. I'm going to remove the citation needed notice. Curtmack 01:28, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

I find it hard to believe that such a glitch exists. I have a real NES and the Battletoads cartridge. My brothers and I were able to consistently get up to level 11, and we've never had this problem. We live in Australia, so it'd be a PAL version I guess. Perhaps the glitch is only in NTSC versions? Ong elvin 03:41, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Horrible Article combines too many games into one

This article combines far too many games into one, and should be split by each unique game. Battletoads (NES, Genesis) should be given a different page than Battletoads (GB), or Battletoads (SNES). You wouldn't combine "Super Mario Land" and "Super Mario Bros" into one page, would you? Combining different games with the same title makes just about as much sense.--Dwedit 09:33, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps we need to pull out some of the information in this article, and just make one for the full series and then leave the NES-specific information here? Or make this article the series article and make a new one for the NES game. -Jacquismo 03:53, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Xbox Live arcade petition

  • should the xbox live arcade petition be included in the battletoads article?-Volumesoxxs

The Petition is not for xbox live arcade, it's for a new game to appear on the xbox 360. Help make a new Battletoads game a reality and bring them to next gen systems. - B.J.

  • No. There's really nothing encyclopedic about it, nor is it terribly important. There are Internet petitions for all kinds of things; that doesn't make them noteworthy. -Jacquismo 21:48, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Spilt Battletoad pages apart

Is anyone planning to split the Battletoads (original) video game page into a "Battletoad series" page? Like make these pages seperate.

Agreed. I'll start working on it right now. Mind you, it's a shorter series than most that have many pages. (5 unique games: Original, Game Boy, Battlemaniacs, arcade and the Double Dragon crossover) So a truly separate article for the series as a whole may not be needed. I'll play in the sandbox and see what works. oknazevad 03:06, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Alright, I made this page about the first game, with only a small section linking to other games in the series. Also, I created a page for the (genuinely unique) Game Boy game, and completed the merge of the Game Gear adaptation into this article (it was just a port, _not_ a new game.) Any further ideas would be appreciated, of course oknazevad 08:02, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello Battletoads: Island Adventure: Set to be released simultaneously on the xbox 360, PS3, wii, PSP, Nintendo DS, and the Atari Jaguar sometime in early 2008. The game will feature Customizable toads, barrel rolls, an heroes, and the ability to unlock mudkip after beating the game at least 100 times. The soundtrack is set to be done by the rap group Futuristic Sex Robotz. This title can be pre-ordered at any Gamestop store.

Battletoads as mem

How about adding a section on Battletoads as a mem? Netrat_msk (talk) 15:24, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

How about no. Tabor (talk) 02:51, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

That would improve the article how? CardinalFangZERO (talk) 03:49, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

I think it's a significant point- I'd never heard of Battletoads until I heard about the Meme, and it certainly effected a lot of people off of the internet (gamestop employees) so it has real-world relevance as oppposed to simply being a "lawl, look what we did on teh intarwebs" type of comment. Himynameishelen (talk) 14:10, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
If it has real world relevance, then it would have sources. Tabor (talk) 01:02, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I find your deleting this section to be entirely arbitrary, you didn't put it to any kind of vote- had you mentioned here the need for sources I could have found several. The section I added was unbiased and encylopedic in it's language- what was your reason for deleting? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Himynameishelen (talkcontribs) 14:30, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I have reverted your edit and added references- any reverts on your part should first be discussed here(leaving a reasonable period to respond), as the section as it stands now conforms to Wiki regulations.Himynameishelen (talk) 14:47, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Encyclopedia Dramatica is definitely not a reliable source. For the record, some of the things I find there are sort of funny. However, some of the things there are totally made up. A perfect example is on their Battletoads page, it states the game is also called Combat Frogs. This is simply not true. CardinalFangZERO (talk) 01:11, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
That was only one of several references- in this case, the whole Battletoads Meme thing was done by 4chan, which basically comprises the same people as those who frequent encyclopedia dramatica- it's like saying a link to an example of a dictionary isn't appropriate in an article about dictionaries. Although much of the article IS "silly" the section about the "raids" offers an insider view and is quite appropriate. Whatever though, I give up on this page- clearly I was mistaken in thinking that Wikipedia was supposed to be an example of a "live" encylopedia which takes current popular culture into account. My section didn't glorify the actions of 4chan and was written in an informative, formal style. In the end- this game is of NO historical relevance, it's an anachronism- the only thing which pulls it apart from any other game of the era is this rebirthing as a Meme. In short- why SHOULDN'T this section be included? It didn't retract from the rest of the article, and added current information about a subject which is likely never to be otherwise updated. There's a line between administering moderation and attempting to deny the existence of things you don't "get." I give up, clearly you have no understanding of current popular culture- things which happen on the internet will increasingly encroach upon the real-world, will you continue to deny them forever? Himynameishelen (talk) 17:32, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
I saw what you posted about the raid thing. I think it could be relevant. And I do agree that you weren't glorifying the actions of some bored 4chan users with nothing constructive to do with their time, such as editing this article to tell folks to crank call a store. For me, the thing with Encyclopedia Dramatica is that if we link to that as a source, and someone whose never heard of them reads what's there, it could leave them cunfused. CardinalFangZERO (talk) 05:49, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Good point. We wouldn't want anyone to get cunfused.

Battletoads meme is spread much wider than prank calls during November 2007. Today, should you ask "What recent video game is worth playing?" or "I'm a fan of a particular game genre, what game should I try?" on most Internet forums and blogs, someone would instantly answer with "Battletoads!". This is related to EMACS meme, when an instant answer to "What software do I use to do <insert any task here>?" would be "EMACS!". This is true for at least Russian-speaking Internet. Is there any other sources other than the "preorder" website? It looks like a scam, and the YouTube video is a bunch of slapped-together video clips from other Wii videos. 99.228.6.142 (talk) 17:49, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I concur. Semi-protecting this article can help prevent this article from being vandalized again. The Encyclopedia Dramatica article on Battletoads (Though blacklisted, does actually provide somewhat accurate information about "memes"), ignoring the images on the side, does have facts and evidence about such Battletoads "raids." I just came to this page looking for information on the game, and a large portion of it is near unreadable due to the repeated obnoxious, screaming little text boxes begging for citations or calling out original research. For the love of god. It says right at the top of the article that it doesn't cite any references or sources and needs to. We get it already. Stop playing "who has the biggest dick on wikipedia" and start considering what makes a readable page to an end user.
