Sandbox

edit

Should we mention that this game is a sandbox game? Legend6 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:06, 14 March 2009 (UTC).Reply

No we shouldn't, because it isn't one. It's a team combat game. 152.91.9.219 (talk) 04:09, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually in one of the videos, the lead producer, Patrick Liu says that it is a sandbox game, saying that all of the environment is destructible to a certain degree. I can't find the video, I'll see if I can get the link later. Jayrossss (talk) 20:56, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I just found the video I believe. Here's a link to it. He says it around 2:04. Krazywrath~ (talk) 03:16, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just because the environment is destructable doesn't make it a sandbox game AlphaTJH (talk) 01:15, 9 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, but when the lead producer says it's a sandbox game, I think you can safely classify it as that. Plus, it does have sandbox elements because you can go anywhere on the map, you're not restricted to a single area or anything. -- Interrupt_feed (talk) 03:29, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Storing vehicle/weapon lists here

edit

Per the Manual of Style for game articles, exhaustive lists of vehicles, weapons, items, etc should be avoided in articles. Perhaps, eventually, some of these (if they are notable) can be discussed (in prose, as opposed to a list) in the article. DP76764 (Talk) 17:23, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Release date

edit

Where did the 1 July release date come from? XBox lists the release as TBD. Can anyone clarify? Scartol • Tok 22:26, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Someone keeps on changing the dates from TBA to an un-cited date. Fixed. Jayrossss (talk) 03:57, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps it's wishful thinking. Perhaps after all the broken hearts resulting from Bad Company, fans of Battlefield have adopted a Tinkerbell-style attitude toward the game — if we wish for it to arrive soon (and be a better game), it will. Scartol • Tok 04:04, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Someone keeps reverting my edits from To be announced to June 25th. Whoever is doing that can you please stop unless you can cite a reliable source? Thank you. Jayrossss (talk) 01:34, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Someone reverted my edit another time. Here is a quote from Gordon Van Dyke, the lead designer: "We are still waiting on 1st party confirmations for a date and it is looking more and more like very early July to be honest with you guys. And before you lalalala and moan, this is out of our control and we wait just like everyone else."

To wrap it up, there is no confirmed release date. I am editing it back to "To be announced" please do not revert.Jayrossss (talk) 00:10, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Then why do all the trailer from the last few months have coming June? 222.152.2.156 (talk) 00:24, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I changed the release date for PS3 and XBOX360 back to "TBA". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.174.226.30 (talk) 07:22, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

That maybe for the PC platform but not for the Consoles they have said it to be false on the official Battlefield 1943 Twitter page. 222.152.2.156 (talk) 22:52, 14 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Okay I changed the date from June to July, and cited a source. No one can change it now!Jayrossss (talk) 11:27, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

But the source though is unclear as he said "soon" not July. We can't just predict that it will be July unless it shows July. It can be August for all we know (because they verified the September rumor as false). Wikipedia is no crystal ball. The Phantomnaut (talk) 18:43, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actual Name

edit

This game isn't called Battlefield 1943: Pacific, it's just called Battlefield 1943; as noted on the official Battlefield: 1943 twitter (http://twitter.com/OfficialBF1943/statuses/2312643480) but apparently the well established offical Battlefield 1943 twitter account isn't reliable, making the page factually incorrect and, ironically, unreliable. Besides the fact it's not referred to as such at all on the official website http://www.battlefield1943.com/, just in a magazine published months ago (when it was called Battlefield 1943: Pacific.) EFJO (talk) 22:19, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I was under the impression that it was call Pacific because it's based in the Pacific. LtFury (talk) 23:37, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

ScreenShots?

edit

I have seen some good c on the BF1943 website all I was wondering if we can use them here or is there going to be a problem with doing that?. LtFury (talk) 21:53, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think screenshots count as 'non-free use' (see the template: {{Non-free game screenshot}}). The problem would be acquiring them (though I'm not an expert on this topic). It might be easier to wait for the game's release and then create your own screenshot, rather than 'borrowing' them from a website. $0.02. DP76764 (Talk) 23:43, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

ok thx for the info and i think your right we'll have to wait for some screenshots to come up after it's out. LtFury (talk) 04:35, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The vandalism situation based on the slow servers.

edit

Hello, this game has been released today and people have been complaining about the activity (because truly too much people are trying to play on narrow quantity servers) and the result has been some vandalism on this issue. I would want to put the information too (in a respectful way) but it's that it's still an ongoing situation; by the time it's resolved, we can then put info on the page. Right now to excuse the new and anonymous user struggle, I requested a temp semi-lock. The Phantomnaut (talk) 01:31, 9 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think that is a good idea i'm really sick of people just missing up the article. Also should add that it's the XBox release that is having problems? LtFury (talk) 03:46, 9 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
This new section is going to need MUCH better sourcing than what is currently there. 1 posting from a forum is definitely not adequate. DP76764 (Talk) 04:03, 9 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rockets or rifles

edit

The infantry class has either a recoiless rifle or rocket launcher, after an edit war was settled. However while the article mentions the rocket launcher the game clearly states Recoiless Rifle as one of the awards...surely this should be changed? tsunamishadow (talk) 18:57, 21 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

An IP editor has been adding the question "There is no recoiless rifle in the 360 vertion of the game. Despite early claims that it would be available. Where are you getting your info from?" in HTML comments. I'll delete it and echo it here. --McGeddon (talk) 19:25, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The in-game stamp for killing four vehicles refers to the anti-tank weapon as a recoilless rifle. There is also a stamp that refers to a recoilless rifle when killing four people. There is only one gun in the game which can be qualified as a recoillles rifle, which is the so called "Bazooka". Thus it stands to be said one of two things about the anti-tank weapon. A, two stamps are mistaken and it is indeed a Bazooka, or B, the anti-tank weapon is indeed a recoilless rifle. VerasGunn (talk) 13:58, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please make a link for a 'bf 1943' search. Other BF games redirect when I type search 'BF2' but this game does not. --65.31.128.253 (talk) 09:43, 4 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Release and reception

edit

It talks about how many downloads it got and set a record and all that. but what was really the reception? Did gamers like the new game? or did they think it was crap?

4:3 Ratio

edit

Where does this info come from? At least in the Xbox 360 version, 4:3 is not available (just 16:9 letterboxed). I wish they would support 4:3... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.24.10.176 (talk) 09:46, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Arisaka/Kar 98

edit

Under factions, classes and weapons final question

http://www.battlefield1943.com/faq

Q. Do the IJN snipers carry an Arisaka or a German Kar 98?

A. The IJN are using a German K98 instead of an Arisaka. This choice was made not out of ignorance but rather because of budget constraints and we could not afford to build the correct rifle. We had a German rifle and had to go with it.

Unless anyone has any objections I will change the name--Matterfoot (talk) 01:51, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Can the article include some more information about how to actually play the game and use features?

edit

TO my knowledge the game does not come with any instructions since its download only. Can someone write about or at least link to some place with the full instructions for the game? FOr instance the article says an air strike can be called in, but I have no idea how to do that. I have no idea how to do alot of things in the game I think the article should focus more on that. thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.209.81.2 (talk) 07:10, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

PC Release Date

edit

Where did the March 2nd release date come from? As far as I can tell from the reference, it's still Q1 2010. Just because Bad Company 2 comes out tomorrow doesn't mean 1943 does. Casual T .30-06 (talk) 19:48, 1 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wishful thinkers continue to add speculative release dates for the PC version to the article. There is no confirmed PC release date, any such release dates are placeholders. 67.193.211.217 (talk) 18:41, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

LAG LAG LAG severe LAG in this game because of EA'S servers

edit

Someone needs to write a professional yet honest assessment of the severe LAG that ALL players USUALLY experience while playing this game online. Its not isolated to any isps or certain users, its universal across the board. Just one verifiable reference for that is EAs own forums where hundreds have complained about the same lag issue. http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/90/370244.page#4078608.

In case nobody understands what lag does, it means you can be moving around and be in a building and then suddenly be outside the building. Or Near a vehicle ready to enter it and suddenly very far away from it. Its because the servers cant keep up with the constant updating going on from all the 24 players that are constantly moving around. EA seems to want to ignore this problem, yet this problem makes the game unplayable. Someone needs to add a section about the EA servers and the lag, or i will write it myself.

You would need a reliable source discussing that, not just random forum postings or your own observations/conclusions. DP76764 (Talk) 15:42, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Long time player here and the lag has never been significant enough to ruin the experience. 67.193.211.217 (talk) 05:02, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
