Mistake edit

Napoleon was not General at this time! He was in November 1793 Captain of the Artillery at the siege of Toulon. Please check the facts and the names in this article. Look here --Machahn (talk) 15:00, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

This battle never happened. Could Wikipedia erase it please? How is it possible that a page has for references another wikipedia's pages? Is that a joke? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.85.95.59 (talk) 14:32, 5 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Deletion edit

This battle never happened. - Napoleon never participated to any battle in Northern France in 1793. He was fighting in Toulon in an artillery regiment, and did not command an army yet. - Fightings happened near Avesnes-le-Sec in 1793 between the French and the Austrians according to the website of the town, and not against Liechtenstein http://www.avesneslesec.fr/historique.html - This page uses other wikipedia pages as sources, it is in violation with wikipedia rules. - In all my life, or in any other pages about the First Empire, I have never heard or read about a defeat of Napoleon in this battle, I don't even know if Napoleon ever went to this very place. Considering Napoleon's life has been studied over and over since his death, I think such an event should be exceptionnaly famous. Yet, only this pages speaks of it. It is obviously a fake one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.85.95.59 (talk) 14:44, 5 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

The battle does appear to have happened, per sources on Google Books. But you are right about the poor sourcing and the statement that Napoleon was the leader. I'll edit the article to fix that. Roscelese (talkcontribs) 03:57, 6 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
