Removal of non-generic text

edit

I removed the text: There is a hazard, which was discovered on an early dive: although the float can hold up well under the pressure of the ocean while underwater, on the surface it can be bent by waves. It is even more fragile after the gasoline is removed. because it refers to the experience of a specifc bathyscaphe and is not generic. The text may have a64.98.210.249 (talk) 23:30, 21 October 2022 (UTC)klTrieste article if it was in fact the Trieste's experience. Ex nihil 23:44, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unbeatable record?

edit

"Unbeatable" world record is misleading, because the Challenger Deep is only believed to be the deepest spot in the ocean. Since the majority of the ocean bottom is unmapped, a deeper spot may be found, making the record beatable. bhhhjkooo The record is listed as both 10,916m and 10,911m in different places throughout wikipedia. From the article on Trieste: "The onboard systems indicated a depth of 37,800 ft (11,521 m), but this was later revised to 35,813 ft (10,916 m). (However later and more accurate measurements made in 1995 have found the Challenger Deep to be shallower, at 35,798 ft (10,911 m))."

This is from the entry on "Challenger Deep," that it's actually the third deepest point.

   * Witjastief 1 (11.034 m)
   * Triestetief (10.916 m)
   * Challengertief (10.899 m)

Use in Fiction

edit

A Bathyscaphe is used to a huge degree in the 1961 Alistair Maclean novel "Fear is the Key". I feel this should be incorporated into this article (but I don't know how to do it properly!).

How a bathyscaphe is distinguished from a submarine, submersible or deep-submergence vehicle should be explained in the article. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 14:53, 22 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
