primary article edit

Of the six items listed on this page, only three link to an article which includes the term 'Basho'. Of those three, one is the 17th century Japanese haikai poet, while the other two are modern musicians who took on the pseudonym Basho as a mark of respect for the above-mentioned poet. It is my contention that 'Basho', rather than linking to this dab page, should redirect to the primary article Matsuo Bashō, which itself should then contain a WP:hatnote pointing to a dab page. Are there any dissenting views? If so, please explain. Thanks. --Yumegusa (talk) 17:25, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd oppose such a move. The current situation works well - checking the Whatlinkshere reveals few links here. I remember when I was disambiguating Basho - not all the links went to Basho, by no means. --Gwern (contribs) 23:02 23 November 2008 (GMT)
I think Basho is prominent enough that this page should be the disambig. Shii (tock) 21:44, 7 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 30 June 2020 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

BashoBasho (disambiguation)Matsuo Bashō is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Basho" and "Bashō." Of the five links currently on the disambiguation page (not including Matsuo), three owe their names to the poet in the first place according to their respective articles. The poet also eclipses all the other entries in pageviews. Therefore, this page should be moved to Basho (disambiguation) and Basho should redirect to Matsuo Bashō. Lead edit

@Paine Ellsworth: you reverted my change to the lead [1]. The example that we should be following is actually the Mozart example. I see that your revert has itself now been effectively undone by @JHunterJ:. Regards, Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 12:21, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to have reverted you, Shhhnotsoloud. The guideline you linked in your edit summary, MOS:PRIMARYTOPIC, is very clear and shows that the PRIMARYREDIRECT, which is Basho (and the actual title of this dab page) should be used in the lead just as I initially placed it. JHunterJ apparently did not check the 2nd example given in that PRIMARYTOPIC guideline. He's a trusted admin so I won't get him involved in an edit war; however, I would like to know why he reverted the edit and is going against the community consensus of the guideline? PS. And it might be helpful to get BD2412's opinion on this. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 15:36, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I agree that the proper format is to use the direct link to the full name in the first instance. BD2412 T 16:23, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Then the MOS should be changed to reflect that. Otherwise po' little editors like me will be sooo (Vinnie Barbarino) confused! P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 16:52, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay, never mind. I see that the 4th and 5th examples counter the 2nd example in certain cases, I guess to be determined by consensus. I have been outvoted !>( P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 17:03, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
There are circumstances where the alternative quickly becomes ridiculous. BD2412 T 17:05, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, yeah, rub it in ;>) P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 17:33, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
