Barney Criticism

Barney is 400 years old.He was first known as the ugly purple dino.I have a problem with the following statement--One specific criticism is that "his shows do not assist children in learning to deal with negative feelings and emotions. As one commentator puts it, the real danger from Barney is 'denial: the refusal to recognize the existence of unpleasant realities. For along with his steady diet of giggles and unconditional love, Barney offers our children a one-dimensional world where everyone must be happy and everything must be resolved right away.'"[2]

Okay as for "One specific criticism is that "his shows do not assist children in learning to deal with negative feelings and emotions." Who said this?

And what about " As one commentator puts it, the real danger from Barney is 'denial: the refusal to recognize the existence of unpleasant realities." Who is the "one commentator"?

I would delete this or reword it or make a change to it but the article is locked. When will it be unlocked? Are people arguing that much about Barney? Is it really necessary to lock the article? The article has tags that say The introduction of this article is too short. To comply with Wikipedia's lead section guidelines, it should be expanded to summarize the article.

Well, the first assertion already has a "citation needed" tag on it--meaning someone else sees the same issue you see with that statement. The second one actually DOES have a reference attached; if you click on the little blue 2, it will take you to a link to the article. Now, mind you, the provided reference is actually only a PARAPHRASE of what was apparently said by Chala Willig Levy (in Parents magazine, apparently) and as such, it's a fairly weak reference--but since it does attribute the information to the person who said it, it's valid. As to when the article is going to be unlocked...approximately "never", would be my best guess. You, as far as I can tell, are the first IP editor to EVER come near this article with less-than-malicious intentions. (Yes, yes, exaggeration--but not by much.) If you were to create an account, four days later you'd be able to edit this article to your heart's content. OR, you could put a request on the WP:RPP page--there's an area for asking for an article to be unprotected. The article was indefinitely semi-protected in April due to horrendous levels of vandalism by unregistered users. I agree that now is a good time to try unprotection again, and it is looking hopeful so far. However, given the page history I have doubts the vandalism seen before will stay away forever, so the page may need to be semi-protected again in the future. Merged

I have merged Barney & Friends cast here. That article was entirely unsourced, listed over a hundred non-notable child actors, and was a constant target for hoaxing and vandalism, and I thought it might get along better as a section of this article. I have only merged part of the article, leaving the names of the various kids who were on the show out. She was a mainstay of the show for most of the time my kids were small (early 90's). She grew up on the show, too. Baby Bop and B.J., both Protoceratops?

From random stumbling on Google about Barney & Friends, i came across an "interview" with Barney The Dinosaur, responding to kids' questions (founded on www.enquirer.com). When one of the kids ask what kind of dinosaurs that Baby Bop and B.J. are, Barney, supposedly repsonds that they are both protoceratops.

barney criticism

The section is poorly written and sourced, and isn't even accurate, there are multiple episodes that deal with feelings like anger and sadness. Delete it or fix it.

Criticism of Barney in Mexico

Due to spanish translation, Barney voice is translated to sound very affeminate, taking him to be compared with gayish characters. By the other side, during Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador rallies on Mexico City due to his lossing in the presidental campaign in 2006, the angered voice actors of Barney series adapted one of the Barney songs to celebrate the loss of Lopez Obrador, the video surprised a lot because it contained profanities and insults to the loser candidate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE0i7R2LZNY

Why is Barney getting all this flak? His world isn't all laughs and giggles. They may make things pretty jolly and happy, but they DO discuss sadness, anger, a song about resolving sibling rivalry (particularly between B.J. and Baby Bop), fear, addressing issues of making sure everyone feels important, etc. In one of the first seasons when Baby Bop was much taller (not sure why--they made some changes as the show went on), she sang a song about being scared of doctors, shots, dentists, and several other mentionables that kids can usually identify with. I don't know what the newer episodes are like (I haven't watched the newer ones; maybe they really are painting too positive of a picture in the newer ones), but I was shocked to read the criticisms about "denial" etc. regarding Barney and Friends. "Denial"? How is being afraid of shots and doctors "denial"? I'm not a psychologist, but common sense tells me that is "acknowledgment". The source for one of the criticisms is a court case called "Lyons Partnership v. Ted Giannoulas". If he's suing or has some sort of legal dispute, of course he's going to criticize Barney. The question is, does his "court case" count as an actual source of valid criticism? I think not, personally. I don't know. I just think Barney is getting some unfair criticism, and would like some civilized discussion of whether any of this criticism belongs in the article or not. I just saw the season 14 theme song and even though the episodes where reruns I noticed that the setting was different so I think they changed the setting of the show and did not have time to film new episodes so they just added reruns for Season 14. I found out that the rumors are false.

Additional Criticism

I'm surprised not to see anyone point out in the criticism section that when the kids are in the show before Barney springs to life, they all sit around moping and saying "I wish Barney was here". It really isn't a very worthwhile attitude to show to kids, avoiding initiative and waiting for someone to come and brighten up your day. This series launched the direct to video television series Barney and the Backyard Gang. It features the characters Barney, Baby Bop, B.J. and Riff. The PBS TV series also was related to Sesame Street from 1969. Barney & Friends was first released from April 6, 1992 to September 18, 2009. It features it on Sprout in a 2017 launch

Another communication about my name being omitted from the composers for Barney & Friends Wikipedia page

I have responded to your request for "reliable sources" twice, and this will be an additional response. You got back to me quickly with your original response for a request for reliable resources, which I appreciated. However, I have not gotten a response from you since providing these resources. Additionally, I have tried uploading my royalty statements from BMI, the earliest accessible ones from 2013 to the present, but they only come in pdf form and this site does not accept them. I will be happy to forward them to you on email.

Please demonstrate to me that the omission of my name from the original Wikipedia article and not correcting your error in a timely manner is not misogyny against a woman of color. I would appreciate any help you can offer, including technical. Surely people sited in Wikipedia are not expected to be computer specialists. I have included the sources again below.

I am not sure how to confirm this to Wikipedia - however I have been receiving royalties from BMI for my Barney songs since the mid 1990s, and still do.
