Singular or plural

I know that "barebone" is the standard term for this, but would anyone else like to see a discussion, or at least mention, of the fact that it's un-grammatical? It should be "barebones", which is the singular form. I've always suspected that it's because many (most? all?) suppliers of these systems are non-English speakers that the term has persisted.
