Twentieth century impressions of Siam edit

Twentieth century impressions of Siam (1908) contains images and information on the museum in the introduction, and again in Royal Survey Work by R. W. Giblin, F.R.G.S., Director of the Royal Survey Department, beginning on p.131 --Pawyilee (talk) 13:03, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Article title edit

Normally I'd say this is a case where the official name should guide usage, but the Fine Arts Department actually has Bangkok National Museum at one website[1] and National Museum Bangkok at another[2]. (The former is more common throughout the domain, though.[3][4]) --Paul_012 (talk) 11:02, 20 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Bangkok National Museum is handier for indexing, & probably more natural in English. National Museum Bangkok rather asks for a comma, too. The recent undiscussed move (with a very unconvincing rationale) should be reverted. Johnbod (talk) 12:47, 20 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've reverted the move, seeing as all other articles under Category:National museums of Thailand use the Branch Name National Museum format. I've also reverted the find&replace change, which broke some reference titles and the Commons link, and the incorrect Thai name and transcription. (Seligne, please be careful when making such edits; could you tell us where you got the word "พิพิธภัณฑ์สถาน" from? It'll help inform us of a source that's unreliable in this aspect.)
I agree with Johnbod that the move rationale was unconvincing; Thai language has a noun-adjective construct, so it's rather nonsense to claim word order from word-by-word translations. The part about "giving the impression it is a museum about Bangkok" doesn't quite stand, since we have British Museum, Vatican Museums and others all over the world. Google News searches give similar amount of results for either Bangkok National Museum and National Museum Bangkok (with or without the comma), with some newspapers inconsistently using both. --Paul_012 (talk) 03:17, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
