Family Name? edit

The article begins: "This is an Icelandic name. The last name is a family name, but this person is referred to by the given name Baltasar Kormákur." And then it gives the name: "Baltasar Kormákur Baltasarsson"

Surely, the last name given there (Baltarsson) is NOT a "family name": it is an Icelandic patronymic. Baltasar Kormákur's family name (which he apparently does not use) is surely 'Samper'; which is the surname used by both his father (Baltasar Samper) and his son (Baltasar Breki Samper). Every Wiki article that I have seen about an Icelander - except this one - makes a clear distinction between 'family names' (surnames) and patronymics. This one appears to confuse the two. Or am I wrong? Since I am not an Icelander, I do not feel qualified to change it.

  • In older versions of the article he was referenced as Baltasar Breki Samper and I suspect that this is a leftover from that time. I will update this. Alvaldi (talk) 15:54, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
