Erectopus sauvagei is a junior objective synonym of E. superbus (Allain 2005), since Sauvage (1882) did not intend E. superbus to be based on the teeth that Huene (1932) incorrectly regarded as being the holotype of E. superbus, nor did Sauvage (1882) designate a holotype for E. superbus. Since Allain did not address the taxonomic affinities of a tibia referred to Erectopus by Stromer (1934), it is best to remove Erectopus from the species list
