Article cleanup

edit

I took out any material in this article in which I could not discern a distinguished and unique datum relating to something other than "this is a good charity" and the ceaseless permutations thereof. The structure is unfortunately in need of a little more cleanup, but that is primarily due to a lack of information. I removed the link to their website because it is wholly inappropriate in such a short article.

Things which might be added are some data regarding the operation of the charity other than (solely) data which underscores their achievements. Methods for fundraising, if notable, would be a decent inclusion.

Quotes should be avoided as this is an encyclopaedia rather than an article of journalism.

I would say the link to the organization's website is still appropriate irrespective of length (it's the first entry in What should be linked). WLU (talk) 12:23, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

I work for Back Up and want to make some changes to the page that are facts, and not promotional material. The charity's working name is Back Up, and that is the name we use in the media, on our website and with the people we support. We never use the name 'The Back-Up Trust' - only in small print and for legal purposes.

We've also changed the services we offer. We don't do holidays or adventure trips, we provide the following services:

Wheelchair Skills Training: https://www.backuptrust.org.uk/support-for-you/wheelchair-skills | Citation: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2011/may/03/back-up-trust-wheelchair-skills Mentoring: https://www.backuptrust.org.uk/support-for-you/mentoring | Citation: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/julie-hill/realising-there-is-life-a_b_16308354.html Life skills and activity courses: https://www.backuptrust.org.uk/support-for-you/life-changing-courses Support returning to work: https://www.backuptrust.org.uk/support-for-you/back-up-to-work Support throughout your education: https://www.backuptrust.org.uk/support-for-you/children-young-people/school-life

I propose including 'commonly known as Back Up,' after the name 'The Back Up-Trust'; and including the following: 'The charity offers wheelchair skills training, mentoring, life skills and activity courses, and support returning to work or education.' — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkBackUp (talkcontribs) 11:03, 9 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Not done Please stop adding unsourced or poorly-sourced claims with the purpose of promoting your charity. For years this article has contained unverified claims. I have recently cleaned it up to allow it to be compliant with Wikipedia's standards. Both of the newspaper article sources that I added do identify this organisation as "The Back Up-Trust". This article isn't here to promote your organisation, nor to list all the services you offer. The current content includes descriptions of activities that have been reported by other sources that appear independent of your organisaton. Drchriswilliams (talk) 22:59, 15 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
