Possible Merger

edit

This could possibly be merged with BBC Scotland 172.159.114.168 05:23, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Then you may as well merge BBC Two NI and BBC 2W with Northern Ireland and Wales respectively? 20:50, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
BBC Two NI and BBC 2W differ considerably on digital to their analogue channels, that's why they deserve seperate articles. BBC One Scotland does not. - Lee Stanley 18:41, 15 Oct ober 2006 (UTC)
Do you actually live in Scotland? Although there is 'regular' variations to BBC Two NI & 2W, I would argue there is actually less differentiation to the national BBC Two than there is between BBC One Scotland and BBC One. Just how much merit is there in their own individual articles? Theres no point in merging articles - both link to each other and therefore are just as easy to find.User:86.132.163.114 20:11, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Do I need to live in Scotland to have an opinion? BBC 2W and BBC Two NI are seperate digital channels to their BBC Two and deserve their own articles (especially so to explain why they are considered different channels and the complications this causes whereby programmes on analogue are not available on digital only set-ups. BBC One Scotland is a variation of BBC One. If we are to have an article for BBC One Scotland then we should also have articles for all of BBC One Wales, BBC One Northern Ireland, BBC Two Scotland, BBC Two Wales and BBC Two Northern Ireland, but we don't. I added the tags to open a debate, so please do not delete them again - take a look at WP:MM#Proposing a merger please. If the outcome of that debate is that the articles should not be merged then fair enough. And please sign your comment in full with four tidles ~~~~ next time. - Lee Stanley 20:09, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
So lets get this proposal right. Because there isn't other BBC One and Two articles we should delete this one? That makes sense how? BBC Two NI and BBC 2W are just variations of BBC Two, so I fail to see how they merit a seperate article if this one doesn't. The only difference between the two is that BBC Two NI and 2W are digital variations whereas BBC One Scotland is both an analogue and a digital variation from BBC One 81.153.219.208 21:41, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Wales and Northern Ireland have variations of BBC 2 on analogue, and different variations on digital 2W and NI, which are considered by the BBC to be seperate to the BBC Two service on analogue and on BBC 2 elsewhere. BBC One Scotland is the same variation on analogue and digital like all BBC One variations and also BBC Two Scotland. My proposal is either all or nothing for those variations, not the situation we have at the moment where one has an article and the rest don't. Either they all do, or none do but if none do we should have it mentioned on the relevant pages eg BBC One and BBC Scotland should have sections about BBC One Scotland. - Lee Stanley 19:48, 19 October 2006 (UTC) P.S. Also you might liek to take a look at [1]Reply

Oppose merger. This television channel is notable, and notably distinct. --Mais oui! 10:31, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I oppose the merger too. There is certainly a case for merging, but the channel has enough distinctiveness in terms of programming, production, and premises that it merits its own article, if only because having all the information about all the regional channels in the main BBC One article would make it undesirably long. – Kieran T (talk | contribs) 12:09, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oppose as per Keirant's reasoning. 66.81.182.59 05:33, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also obviously oppose the merger and I'm glad there are finally others who agree with me, rather than just dissenting opinions wishing to close an article immediately, without recognising its merits. Also, is it not basic pettiness to require a citation to prove Holby City is broadcast on a different night in Scotland? It's not hard to see River City barely ever moves from Tuesdays at 8.00, that time also being Holby City's usual timeslot in the rest of the UK 86.132.235.34 19:18, 21 October 2006 (UTC) 21 October 2006 20:19 UTCReply

Oppose – distinctive enough, and if other regional channels are equally distinctive they too can have articles. ... dave souza, talk 23:29, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merge. There should be a merger or partial merger as some of the statements about BBC One Scotland actually refer to BBC Scotland. For example
"BBC One Scotland is also responsible for covering certain special events such as the annual Hogmanay Live programme which sees in the New Year, and major Scottish sporting events such as football internationals, the Scottish Cup, Scotland's Six Nations rugby union campaigns, and the performance of the Scottish competitors at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne."
These events are covered by BBC Scotland and could be transmitted on either BBC1 Scotland or BBC2 Scotland. I suspect that the presentation for BBC1 Scotland and BBC2 Scotland is normally done by the same person from the same presentation area. They are not two complete separate entities. --jmb 11:38, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Station?

edit

"BBC One Scotland is a television station operated by BBC Scotland."

The wording does not seem right, would "television service" or "television channel" sound better? Neither seem quite right but sure it could be rewritten in a better form. --jmb 11:44, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merge (again)

edit

It's BBC One, in Scotland, with a few programme changes. Regional variations are not in and of themselves notable (BBC One North East and Cumbria, anyone?). As opposed to BBC 2W, which opts out for pretty much the entire evening schedule. Chris cheese whine 23:15, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

BBC H-aon Alba

edit

BBC Dhà Alba is a strand within BBC Two Scotland, not an alternative name for the whole channel. I'm not sure that BBC H-aon Alba exists even as a strand within BBC One Scotland, let alone an official alternative name for it. I can only find reference to it in documents in Gaelic, so, unless you can cite its official usage, it's a translation into Gaelic, not an official handle for the channel.
