This is from the Fascism pages. I'm not sure how relevant it is to here:

In Italy in 1924, A group known as Catholic Action was established as a non-political lay organization under the direct control of bishops. The organization was forbidden by the Vatican to participate in politics, and thus not opposed to the fascist regime, unlike the Partito Popolare. Vatican support for Catholic Action resulted in hundreds of thousands of Catholics withdrawing from the Partito Popolare, and joining the apolitical Catholic Action - causing the Catholic Party's final collapse.

Is this the same organisation?

Also this as a reference:

I think it is the same organization, even if it has been in some way updated/rebuilt after WW2. But I am not sure about the history of Azione Cattolica, and a reference is needed. I will try to look for that. gala.martin (what?) 16:47, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it is the same organization. It has been updated after the Second Vatican Council. We could translate the history from the Italian article. gala.martin (what?) 16:50, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
