first of all, the PFA was formed as an informal institution in 1979. second, I think it's important to point out the key figures (public and undercover) who contributed to formation and unity of the popular front and played an important role in bringing the PFA to official power in Azerbaijan. also, the period between the beginning of protests and the PFA coming to power and holding free democratic elections, is simply missing (a 5 years' period, apprx.). the author probably thought it wasn't as important. but the PFA, with its direct leaders and supporters, contemplated and carried out many quite important actions, which further acted as primary and/or secondary components of PFA later on. if you need detailed information on the aforementioned, feel free to address your questions

popular front in Azerbaijan

in this article, the popular front in Azerbaijan is used for promoting the Popular Front Party - which is completely wrong. (Popular Front Party is a political party formed after the establishment of an independent democratic government in Azerbaijan, along with Musavat Party and AMIP) the popular front was a unity of institutions and individuals who fought for freedom and democracy in Azerbaijan, without serving needs of any political party or leader. just because Ali Karimli or anyone else was in that movement, it does not mean they can use the name popular front in their own interest or in the interest of their political parties. the popular front is an attribute of post-colonial young democracies, just like their flags and national anthems, therefore it cannot and should not be used to promote or advertise any political party. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.167.112.74 (talk) 14:24, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

facts

PFPA

This article includes a lot of details about "Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan" (PFPA) which is a redlink. As the text goes from talking about PFA to PFPA, without returning to PFA, I am left wondering if PFA was reorganized to become PFPA, which then became APF. If they are different parties, I think it would be helpful to create a stub for PFPA. If they are essentially the same, we need a redirect from "Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan" to this article. The history section sounds more like cheerleading than scholarship: "...this courageous step...the courage and defiance of Azerbaijani people in the face of Soviet oppression were recognised and celebrated across the former Soviet Union and around the world...
