The name

No, it was a proposal to change the name of South Africa to Azania, which was promoted by PAC on similar lines as changing Rhodesia to Zimbabwe. --Soman (talk) 20:32, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

• According to Christopher Hitchens the ANC sent Waugh a letter asking his opinion on the topic of adopting the name Azania, is that true?
  • I partially retract my former statement. It seems that this is in fact a theory behind the adoption of the name "Azania" by PAC. see "The ANC rejects the term "Azania", derived from an Arabic term of abuse for the peoples of east/southern Africa. The PAC, which favours the name, apparently wrote a polite letter to a bemused Evelyn Waugh, the author of Black Mischief, for enlightenment, as he called his imaginary country "Azania" in the book." APLA fighters still is jail?

Hi. There is a Facegroup group calling itself the "#FreeAPLAPrisoners Campaign" advovating for the release of APLA fighters still in jail. Is there any truth to this? The description of the group says the following:

"FREE APLA POLITICAL PRISONERS CAMPAIGN

As a network of Pan-Afrikanist and Black Consciousness activists, we demand from both “President” Jacob Zuma and the Minister of Correctional Services Michael Masutha the unconditional release of Azanian People’s Liberation Army (APLA) freedom fighters who were incarcerated by the settler colonial apartheid state under the Nationalist Party Government during the 80s and 90s.

The APLA combatants were involved in various operations aimed at the destruction of the apartheid regime which had, for years oppressed, exploited and dispossessed the African majority through violent and inhumane means.

FW De Klerk, Commander in Chief, including members of his cabinet such as Pik Botha, and many SADF Generals such as Constand Viljoen of the apartheid army including the South African Police force, all butchered many young and old defenseless African people but they remain free and untouched by the current ANC Government while APLA Political Prisoners languish in South African Prisons, some for more than 20. Their only crime was to fight against apartheid.
