Small Change in Discography

In her Discography Summary on her main page, it mentioned how "Nothing From Nothing" was a pre-Avex mini-album, however i think it's unnecessary, sloppy-looking and borderline awkward to mention it there and should be saved for the main Ayumi Hamasaki discography page. Best selling female artist?

Hi there. Though I don't necessarily have the time to research and thus prove the point, it would be best if someone else could confirm the fact that Ayumi Hamasaki has actually sold over 500 billion records worldwide. Even Elvis and The Beatles, at best, claim to have sold only a bit over 1 billion, and the citations for this factoid are leading to something completely unrelated. I also believe Utada Hikaru has sold more records worldwide than she does, and thus do not believe she is the best selling Japanese female artist as it says. With that said, I have no proof and this is only speculation for some obvious bias, and I do not have the time to dig and edit this personally. It would be great if someone (a better person than I) can research and change this accordingly. Where does the article say that she sold over 500 billion reoords? The only figure I see reads 50 million. Utada Hikaru has sold more worldwide, while Ayumi Hamasaki was the first to sell 50 million in her native country. See 1; 2; and 3. Spelling Style (talk) 16:18, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
A friend of mine asked me to check this out, both "facts" are wrong and the article should be corrected. Michiya Mihashi was the first musician in Japan to surpass 100 million albums sold (as stated by Oricon www.oricon.co.jp/prof/artist/211841/profile/full) and he is the best selling musician from Japan. The best selling female musician is Hibari Misora who sold more than 80 million (post-death biography book 20世紀の宝石 美空ひばり大全集) Both far exceed 50 million by a far amount. Others include Shinichi Mori who has sold more than 90 million etc (according to Recording industry of Japan http://www.riaj.or.jp/issue/record/2007/200711.pdf) 27.33.143.93 (talk) 13:34, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
However it is correct that Hamasaki is one of the most successful solo musicians in Japan, however she is far from the most successful and the referenced material is of poor journalism and quality especially when it conflicts with official data from RIAJ and Oricon.27.33.143.93 (talk) 13:38, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
The sources in the article are Yahoo English and TokyoHive articles, but I found an an article straight from Oricon here that talks about the claim. From what I'm getting from the Google translation of it, it seems like record is more nuanced. It looks like the claim is that she's the first solo artist to top 50 million since Oricon started collecting data in January 1968, which would exclude most of Michiya Mihashi's and Hibari Misora's sales. In that case, it's a nice record, but more of a technical one, so it probably shouldn't be included in the article. Trinitresque (talk) 17:08, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Splitting section 1.5

Most sections of her biography cover up to 3 years, but the 1.5 section 2007-present Market Beyond Japan covers 6 years; and to be honest the "beyond japan" is mostly 2008-2009. Yeah, I guess that's because the current structure is the same way it was all the way back in 2008 when Ink Runner turned it into a featured article, but since then, people have just been adding on to the last section. It definitely does need a split. Maybe it should be split at the beginning of 2011? It seems like the March 2011 earthquake affected her a lot, and a split there means we wouldn't have to make another split for a while, like until 2015ish. I'm not sure what section title to go with though. Personally I just wish Ink Runner would come back here and sort things out a bit (hint hint). Trinitresque (talk) 15:14, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Article changes/splits?

Hi there. I have overlooked the article quite a lot of times and I'm a bit fussed with some of the articles. I was wondering if we should split articles up like "1998-1999: Career beginnings and A Song for xx", "2000-2002: Commercial success, Duty and I Am... era" or something like that. I just find the article headings VERY broad and don't specifically identify which album/event era was in which year because it can confuse the reader a lot. Just a public opinion. Any responses?

Why is the 2007 to present section called this? I'm fairly certain she didn't expand into greater markets then - she's been sold in Taiwan/SE Asia/Korea since her debut, and those US/German singles were all well before this period. --Prosperosity (talk) 21:00, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
