Headquarters

I am seeing from reliable sources that MindGeek is in fact based in Montreal, Canada rather than Luxembourg as it claims. This 2016 article from La Presse mentions this (Google translated):

On the intercom, a receptionist tells us that no leader of MindGeek is on site. Not today nor tomorrow. "Nobody works here, nobody works from here," she says. 5700 km away, along the Décarie Expressway in Montreal, the atmosphere is much more lively. Employees come in and out of the MindGeek offices on a friday morning in September, a few weeks after our visit to Luxembourg. This is where the majority of MindGeek employees, a Montreal-based conglomerate with many of the best-known porn sites on the web [...] MindGeek SARL [...] was officially registered in October 2013. At that time, MindGeek Holding Inc., located on Décarie Boulevard in Montreal, was "the 'sole shareholder' of this Luxembourg holding, confirm the documents obtained by La Presse.

So the company is based in Montreal. And even if we want to say Luxembourg due to legal registration that won't be true either, as quoted above all shares of the Luxembourg company are owned by another company of theirs in Canada (tax avoidance, low taxes in Luxembourg). More on that here:

MINDGEEK S.A R.L. ( B181337), registered in Luxembourg by MindGeek Holding Inc., a company under the laws of Canada, registered with the Registraire des Entreprises du Québec under the number 1169455970 and having its registered office at 600-7777 boulevard Décarie, Montréal (Québec) H4P2H2 Canada. MindGeek Holding inc. in Canada is owned by "9288-1259 Québec inc." which is owned by businessmen Antoon Feras and David Tassillo.

Seeing that the company is ultimately incorporated in Canada and even operates from there, I propose the company headquarters be changed to Montreal, Canada.

PS: Something similar happened in the Cambridge Analytica article [1], where though the legal documents mentioned New York as its HQ it operated out of London as mentioned in news reports. The HQ was changed to London. (Not the case here, even legal documents support the change)

  • I have updated the article to reflect its a Canadian company as it seems to be the standard on Wikipedia. Such as with Spotify which is also headquartered in Luxembourg but is mentioned as a Swedish company. Gotitbro (talk) 04:44, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
    • This location of HQ quirk for MindGeek seems to be well enough handled for the article ... though should a disclaimer be added to the HQ entry? Text mdnp (talk) 19:59, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
