The following is an archive of a discussion about whether Sir Henry Lee's involement in the school did really happen.

Arthur Taylor, the venerable former librarian, head of history and amiable dog-collared eccentric, always used to claim that the association between the school and Henry Lee was fictive. History records, apparently, that Lee "funded a school in Aylesbury", but there is no clear link between this funding and AGS.
- The entry for Aylesbury, in online versions of 1911 Encyclopedia Brittannica, states that "The grammar school was founded in 1611" and not in 1598.
Mind you, he also used to assert that the Battle of Aylesbury never happened, and that the traditional account of UK history is a "Whig Myth". I wonder whether he's still alive?
I hope and believe so - I note that he recently gave an address at the funeral of the late Deputy-Head, Mr Lloyd-Jones. I have created controversy by representing Mr Taylor's viewpoint here too - neither then nor now can I find the contemporary source, but there is one...!
