While "sirvente" is an acceptable anglicisation, sirventes (with the accent on the final syllable) is the original Occitan singular term, meaning "servant-like". I assume the suffix is related either to Spanish -ez (as in estupidez, the quality of being estúpido), but the Catalan form -esch suggests it is like French and English -esque or Spanish -esco, but I've never looked into it.
