Take Dickins' Oliver Twist and replace the names from the ones in the movie, and there is your fucking plot.

Does anyone have any idea what this movie is even about? I find it unusual that there's no plot section, even though the movie is being released shortly.

Also, why is the UK release date the only one mentioned in the lead? Is it even correct? Just a few questions about the article. --clpo13(talk) 02:05, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also, why no mention of Oliver Twist? The latter half of the story is nearly a blow-by-blow retelling of Dickens's tale, much more so than any thematic similarities with Thoreau's work. --Cg-realms(talk) 18:51, 1 December 2007 (EST)

I edited down the plot summary. It was pretty long. It could even be shortened up more. Airproofing (talk) 02:34, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Johann Sebastian Bach's contributions edit

The second track (the first after the main title) in the soundtrack features an excerpt from one of Bach's compositions. Which is it?41.243.56.116 (talk) 06:57, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sounds like it's a concert written for the harpsichord, maybe that will narrow your search down a bit. I'm not expert with classical music.  — Adriaan (TC) 09:31, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Plot Summary edit

I edited the plot summary to an appropriate size, so the request to edit it down could be removed now. Cinderelly007 (talk) 16:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Cinderelly007 Cinderelly007Reply

  • I edited it down once too and it all got reverted. Good job though. Airproofing (talk) 23:39, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oliver Twist edit

Is there anything out there supporting the idea that the movie's a rework of Oliver Twist?--Lepeu1999 (talk) 01:47, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's definitley a completle rip-off of Dicken's masterpiece. -A wikipedia user. June 2009 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.155.254.104 (talk) 14:45, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Answering Darrenhusted edit

  • "From that one night together" is filler

It establishes the idea that Lyla became pregnant from Louis not just "became pregnant". If there is a better way to say this fine, but the notion needs to exist that Evan is the son of both Lyla and Louis.

  • "only" is filler,

Again, it establishes character. It's not like her father gave up and figured he might as well say something. It's not like he "found Christ" or something. Lyla only found out because he was dying. Otherwise he would have (and did) keep the secret.

  • that Wizard threatens to reveal his name is unimportant

This I object to completely. Without this it looks like Evan just went cause he was too stupid to think for himself. It needs to be made clear that "Wizard" threatened the boy and had some means of making Evan come with him. This was not Evan's first choice and the threat is central to the control "Wizard" has over these kids and the courage Evan displays in running away and going to the performance. Without this and other key aspects Evan is simply wandering around hoping to bump into his parents. That's not the case, he's pointedly "following the music".

  • parentheses are clumsy.

In what way? How else would you set of a parenthetical statement? The parenthetical statement is needed to establish that Louis sees Lyla's name and the name of the kid from the park. If we don't explain that what Louis sees is a conflagration of those two names (one of whom he's been looking for) then his impetus for stopping at the park is deadened.

  • It is bloat for nothing.

No, it is bloat because the article is poorly written as is. The article says "Lyla has discovered Evan's identity" this implies that she knows who he is and that he is called "August Rush". This is patently not true. That is found out only incidentally by Richard Jeffries at or near the end of the movie. The article says "Louis, being wrongly told that Lyla has since married," that is bordering on a lie. He was told "the girl next door was on her honeymoon" it was a miss-communication not done intentionally nor was Lyla herself mentioned.

And I have to ask, with all this blather about bloat are you seriously trying to save 127 characters? That's the best you've got? This article needs to be copy-edited more desperatly than the savings of 127 characters. Padillah (talk) 13:05, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

  1. Clumsy.
  2. She found out, or she only found out, the end result is the same.
  3. Parentheses with plot summaries are always clumsy, it the details are important rework them into the main body of the clause.
  4. Bloat is bloat is bloat, you add 127 characters then ten more editors do the same and soon we end up with an article which is all about the plot and nothing else. Copy-editing should reduce the length not add to it (by which I mean readable prose, by all means wikilink relevant words). Darrenhusted (talk) 13:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Then, if it bothers you that badly, I would suggest you find an elegant way to add this information. Or concentrate on aspects of the article that need work. Or, don't place fake restrictions on other editors that are trying to improve the article. Elegance has little to do with blatant mis-statements. If you feel the need to stand guard over this article then I think we have issues with OWNnership. As soon as you cite me the policy against "clumsy" additions (and the policy that objectively defines "clumsy" additions) to article text I'll cease, until then I will push these corrections as necessary to the integrity of the article. It is completely false that copy-editing should reduce the length. If the length is made of false statements and misleading copy then editing should serve to correct that which is false or misleading. If that means more text then you will have to accept the fact that the movie is more complex than "He found his parents". Padillah (talk) 15:08, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dangling modifier edit

I can't make sense of this:

Except for "Dueling Guitars", all of August's guitar pieces were played by American guitarist-composer Kaki King, performing as her hands for the movie.

What is "performing as her hands"? Some/all of the guitar pieces? August? The actor who plays August/Evan?drone5 (talk) 01:08, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think it's supposed to say 'his hands'. Freddie Highmore (August) can't play guitar so when they did the close up shots of August's hands playing they had to use Kaki King's hands instead. If you look closely during the movie you can see that the hands are too big to belong to Freddie Highmore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Superchickrox (talkcontribs) 11:27, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hans Zimmer edit

There seems to be some doubt about the involvement of Hans Zimmer in the music for the soundtrack. Has anyone found any reliable reference concerning this? LynwoodF (talk) 12:20, 3 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I dug out a DVD of the film and had a look at the credits. Hans Zimmer is credited before Mark Mancina for the theme. So I suggest we leave him in the infobox. LynwoodF (talk) 13:07, 3 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
