I deleted an item from the Events list - the alleged invention of chop suey in NYC in 1896. No one knows just who invented chop suey or even what year it was invented, much less the exact date. Even the Wiki article on chop suey, which the item linked to, cited multiple references to chop suey from the 1880s. PubliusFL 19:00, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Sarah Palin

How is the announcement of Sarah Palin not noteworthy? This is the first female GOP candidate for Vice-President. Someone keeps deleting it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.83.231.41 (talk • contribs)

The first thing that needs to be pointed out is that the announcement on this date is simply an announcement. She is not the nominee yet, although there is little doubt that she will be. The announcement has little historical significance. The second thing is that she won't be the first female vice-presidential candidate. The fact that she is the first Republican doesn't matter. This is not a milestone and it does not set a precedent. The announcement is certainly newsworthy, but in and of itself, it does not have long term global significance. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skynet_(Terminator), Skynet gained self-awareness on August 29, 1997, within the fictional Terminator universe. Would it be appropriate to put this in the events section of this page? According to [[wikipedia]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptian_calendar]], the first day of Thoth is 29th August in the Julian calender. Radio Adverts.

Right: is it possible for someone to sort out the date of the first radio advert?

According to this page, the first advert was on WEAF-AM, on 29th August, 1922.

But, according to Wikipedia’s own article on the subject, the first advert was on WEAF-AM on 28th August, 1921!

Can we have this clarified and cleaned up, please?

Per WP:BIRTHDOY only people with there on article should be listed. "Being part of a group with an article or having the page that bears one's name redirected to a different article does not qualify as having one's own article."
