Campus

The main Auburn University campus occupies most of the southwestern corner of the town of Auburn, Alabama. The traditional entrance to campus is known as "Toomer's Corner," the intersection of College and Magnolia streets. Auburn's campus is broken into five distinct sections. Central Campus is the oldest of these, and makes up the majority of the academic buildings. In this section, you will find many of the major Colleges and Schools in the University, such as the College of Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts.

WikiProject Universities

We need to keep an eye on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Universities. Could some of the guidelines be applied here to improve the article structure? -- Fingers-of-Pyrex 16:01, 2005 May 12 (UTC)

Reintegration and article length

I've re-integrated the Athletics and Traditions sections for several reasons.

• The article length is not significantly above what is considered generally acceptable per Wikipedia:Article size.
• A sampling of other comparable universty articles uncovered no other with a breakout like this.
• The content that was moved is far more germane to what is important to AU family/culture than other text that might be trimmed such as the Housing and Greek sections.

Although I would like assume good faith (WP:FAITH) on the part of the anon editor who split the article and say it was just overzealousness, I would note that the split was one of a series of edits (string-edits) that initally masked vandalism added to that section just before the split. History

This history section has become too long. I suggest creating a seperate article, such as History of Auburn University and collapsing the section to main highlights only. The same probably needs to be done with athletics, but definitely with history. Ttownfeen 22:48, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Either the Plainsman or the Corner recently did an article on urban legends. They addressed the issue of the soroity houses/dorms, and determined that this was not true. Could there be a history page on Samford Hall / or a link to one? I have a page on the clock / bell tower hosted on the Auburn web servers that I would like to wikify. Could the graphic marked as a"modern logo" actually show the modern interlocking AU logo? The version shown is the older and, IMO, less appealing version that is rarely seen, if ever. Collimd (talk) 14:36, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Famous Alumni

Richard Marcinko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Marcinko) is another famous alum that should be added to the list.

Billy Hitchcock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Hitchcock) should be added to the list also. Did he graduate in 1941 or 1942?

Status as largest school in state

The statement that Auburn is the largest school in the state contradicts data given by U of A. According to their Sept. 2006 figures, Alabama is the largest in the state, which is what is claimed in the U of A article. Numbers will fluctuate so a temporal tag may be in order.

The individual universities' claims can be disputed, but the enrollment numbers don't lie. According to the 2006 figures, Alabama is the largest. However, Auburn could have surpassed Alabama by now. This is clearly a time sensitive issue.

Universities compare size based on official fall enrollment. Certainly the numbers may vary from year to year, but not more often than that. Perhaps I'm just a poor reader, but I reviewed both links provided by AuburnPilot above, and neither claimed that either Auburn OR Alabama was the largest institution in the state. Both said that the institution's Fall 2006 enrollment was a record for the institution. ---- WarEagle78

I think the issue between the conflicting reports is in how they are looking at the numbers. If look at the total number of students enrolled at each university on all it's campuses, there is no way for Auburn to compete as Alabama has UAT, UAB, and UAH, where as Auburn only has its main campus and AUM. However, in the public eye, UAB is often seen as a different identity from the main campus in Tuscaloosa, so comparing the enrollment of the main campus of each university is valid approach. After all, if you're only going to use the enrollment on all campuses, how does Troy University measure it with all its worldwide campuses? Collimd (talk) 14:27, 26 March 2008 (UTC) collimd

Rankings

The US News and World Report rankings need to be reevaluated and changed based on the 2008 release. The article claims positions in the state and SEC that are inconsistent with the listing dating back even to last year. This should probably be done by unbiased individual as unfortunately I probably would not be. --Kchambers 16:32, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

NPOV

"Auburn has traditionally been rated highly by academic ranking services" That's a joke right?..............I have seen fewer articles with more of a bias than this. Than I saw that most of the edits are done by people who say they go to, or have gone there. The real question is, what is a Canadian doing looking at a school in Alabama, commenting on things he doesn't know about a school he'll never be qualified for, while holding biases against a state and school that don't belong anywhere, much less in Wikipedia. Library section

Who wants to start it? :) Auburn has the largest library in the state of Alabama, but no mention of it in the article. This needs to be remedied.

There's enough public information out there on the library to make it a good candidate for its own page.

Old Village

Wasn't the "old village" (reference housing section) referred to as the CDV (Corrine-Draughton Village or something)? /Blaxthos ( t / c ) 16:36, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Yep, CDV was the Caroline Draughon Village and was demolished within the last year or so. It has been temporarily replaced with a parking lot for those who live in the dorms, and a few empty fields. See this announcment from AU. And oddly enough, I always thought it was spelled Draughton, but apparently not. - auburnpilot talk 16:48, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Traditions

I noticed that the Wreck Tech parade has been flagged as having no sources. Should it even be in the traditions section as 1) Auburn and Georgia Tech no longer paly each other on a regular basis in football and 2) it is nowhere near the level of tradition as the other items listed in that section?
