Merge

Since Atlantic Bank was taken over by New York Community Bank, this page should undoubtedly be merged with the NYCB page. ask123 17:13, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I disagree entirely. The history would disappear, or would be hard to find. Someone looking up Atlantic Bank would have to know that it is now part of NYCB, but if they were looking it up because of some historical link, such as Bank of Athens or National Bank of Greece, they wouldn't find it. Fair enough. There is good reason to keep a separate page for Atlantic Bank that would include its history up to the takeover. But, at this point, the article is far from that. Right now, this isn't an article; it's just a list. It needs prose to be a serious Wikipedia article. Wiki policy says, "Articles should consist of prose, not just a list..." There are some pages that are permitted to be only lists, but this is not that type of page. The majority of pages are supposed to contain encyclopedic information written in prose -- they may include lists within them but are not supposed to be comprised only of lists. If you'd like, check out Stand Alone Lists, Listcruft, Embedded Lists and other policy and manual of style articles on lists and embedded lists. ask123 22:00, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Agree entirely. If there is no actual article here, it should be merged and redirected. In fact, I don't agree with the first argument, since that concern could be taken care of by correct linking. CitiCat ^♫ 20:02, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

The issue is where to merge the info. Atlantic Bank does not belong to New York Community Bank. It belongs to New York Commercial Bank, which is a subsidiary of the bank holding company that also owns New York Community Bank as a separate subsidiary with eight divisions. We do not yet have a page for New York Commercial Bank. I would be happy to create a paragraph out of the Atlantic Bank history, if someone else will create the New York Commercial Bank page.Acad Ronin (talk) 12:47, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
