Just out of interest - what answer DID the contestant give? - Kilcock! - see below - I am confident thatthis is not an "urban Myth"

I'm from Athy, and nobody ever called me an "Athyian".

Sources?

edit

This article doesn't seem to cite a single source. Dfeuer 09:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

True, but that's possibly because it doesn't contain anything of any controversy!

Supposedly the radio-show question was "What Kildare town has the same name as a body part?" or words to that effect. The correct answer was "Athy" but the contestant said "Kilcock". This is fairly funny, which makes it seem like an urban myth. I see that section has been removed anyway now due to lack of a citation.

Re: "Athyian" - I'm also from Athy, and never heard that expression either.

Also - what's going on with all the "Legendary Musician Robbie Robinson" stuff ? That's a fairly subjective term. It says the same thing in the main Robbie Robinson article. I'm not having a go at the guy or anything, but this sounds like it was written by a mate of his. Quarehawk 20:59, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

No Joyce Reference?

I couldn't believe no one added anything about there being a character named Athy in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajoebc (talkcontribs) 02:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

A centre for Hiberno-English??

edit

Where is the evidence to back this up? Could this be also true for other towns along the Pale, or indeed, anywhere in Ireland with a substantial English presence? Sounds like someone's acting the maggot!
