Infobox edit

The fabled Ateneo - La Salle school rivalry should include not only basketball but also all the individual sports categories and overall NCAA/UAAP General chammpionships of both schools. Leaving this out would be hiding the truth and leaving out the achievements other sports athletes who brought gold and glory to both schools. Caugustineb (talk) 02:18, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I've had to revert this again until we come to some form of consensus. Also, some of the reversions restore edits that were corrections by some bots as well as which clarify some of the sentences. I agree with you that there ought to be some way of documenting how teams have fared in terms of sports categories. It's just that it does not make sense to simply lump together the combined titles. You can do that with individual categories, but the problem would be that we'd have a pretty huge infobox that would be superfluous given how contributors have labored to describe how each school has performed in the different events. So it's either we go with the long infobox listing the various categories, or we insert a couple of sentences in the lead paragraphs describing, for example, how La Salle has more championships in certain categories and the Ateneo has more in another. I agree that a huge infobox should be avoided. However, the infobox serves as a summary of the accomplishments of both schools and total collegiate championships for both schools should be included in the infobox. The reader can get more detailed records in the head-head records section. References have also been included but the bots will need to be continuously vigilantly reversed and corrected. Thanks for the input. Caugustineb (talk) 07:35, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Again, I've had to revert. The infobox serves as a summary, sure. Detailed records are in the summary, sure. But this does not justify what I have found problematic: the aggregation of various categories into one statistic. I've also had to revert because there are grammatical errors that have been restored, so I've had to do away with those. Rmcsamson (talk) 07:51, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Just to add, I've looked at other articles on similar topics. Those with infoboxes tend to be limited to individual sporting events, such those about Duke and UNC, Boston College and Notre Dame, Harvard and Yale, etc. That's because any "rivalry" can be clearly identified in terms of those individual events. If we want to go into all the sporting events, we may want to consider whether Ateneo and La Salle can be even considered "rivals" in those events, or if those are all just a convenient, media-created spillover from Men's Basketball. (Incidentally, rather noticeable is the fact that the article about La Salle and UST does not have an infobox of the sort sought to be created here.) Rmcsamson (talk) 07:58, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unclear! edit

Is this rivalry related to basketball? If so, it must be made clearer in the beginning of the article. Causantin (talk) 08:45, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Exactly my thought. I came to this from the front page of Wikipedia and had no idea at all what the subject of the rivalry was until about half-way down the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.47.195.143 (talk) 09:40, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think it isn't necessarily meant to be a bball article, per se. It just so happens that bball is all that people have written about. Might I suggest adding the "square off: frankahan" debate championship confrontation of DLSU-ADMU in the finals (dlsu victor). All other possible writeups may be added.

I also believe that we should keep it a SCHOOL RIVALRY affair rather than a bball affair. My two cents in. Debater.archer (talk) 15:49, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

You guys can add anything as long as its sourced and related. –Howard the Duck 12:58, 29 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

On the UAAP basketball match up particularly due to La Salle's use of ineligible players: edit

1) Why is the unofficial wins prioritized over the official wins? Shouldn't the official win total be the one stated and the unofficial just an after thought?

2) Stating the reason that La Salle's suspension would cause the reversals is inaccurate. It is a Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc fallacy. The suspension happened only in 2006. Its only effect is that no rivalry game was played during that year. The suspension is caused by violation of the eligibility rules committed by La Salle. Thus, it is likewise the correct reason for the reversals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.202.136.223 (talk) 00:38, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. There is probably a way to clarify this. I've slightly altered your proposed language, maybe this will help. Rmcsamson (talk) 04:17, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Record of Ateneo La Salle basketball games. edit

I recently was made aware that some of the data is incorrect.

In 1990, La Salle swept both games. It reflects Ateneo winning 1 out of the 2 games. It should show DLSU winning the first game 64 to Ateneo's 57.

My source: http://uaapsports.studio23.tv/Article.aspx?articleid=32

Furthermore, I suggest that the NCAA games of the table be split from the UAAP games since

1) The NCAA games is by no means complete unlike the effort being done for the UAAP games. It only shows championship matches unlike with the UAAP games where both eliminations and championship games are included. Having it in just one table gives the impression that Ateneo and La Salle met only in the finals in the NCAA.

2) The UAAP games are a significant topic of discussion which frequently excludes the NCAA games. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Milo96 (talkcontribs) 00:09, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I haven't edited the figures accordingly since I am quite unfamiliar with the formatting system.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Milo96 (talkcontribs) 00:05, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

The scores since 1986 came from the old UBelt.com site. It's dead now so it can be checked. I tried going to Web Archive but they didn't archive it. Would like to keep NCAA and UAAP scores together. Wikipedia is a work in progress anyway; it can be noted that only NCAA championship games are included in the text. –HTD 02:31, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
When this page was just recently created, it showed La Salle winning the 1st 1990 game. It must've been vandalism that was never corrected. I'll be changing this shortly. –HTD 11:35, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
