The original author (Gibson, 2009, p. 195) states: The generic name is formed from the Greek words aspido, meaning “shield” and pleuro, meaning “side”, In ancient Greek ἀσπίς and πλευρόν are respectively "shield" and "side". Wimpus (talk) 20:30, 22 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Is etymology only about intent, not about the actual meaning and form of words? I am not opposing to expressing the intent of the authors, but it would be questionable to state their derivations/spelling/meanings as fact, when it is obvious to anyone who would check a dictionary, that the words are actually written otherwise or have a different meaning.
