Talk:Asleep in the Deep (song)

Latest comment: 7 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

In addition to being an episode of some tv series Asleep in the deep is a song. Most likely the TV series got the name from the song.

Two unrelated problems then:
  1. Namespace error: A "(disambiguation)" page is explicitly defined to be a sort of table-of-contents of the pages for each specific meaning of the topic, not to be about any one specific meaning. An article about a song might go in Asleep in the Deep (song) or somesuch. See WP:DAB, in particular the "Page naming conventions" section for more info.
  1. No context for the article: An article about a song needs to be about the song, not just the lyrics. At a minimum, note that it even is a song, so the reader has some idea what the thing is. A page of lyrics with no explanation is a likely WP:SPEEDY candidate.

The page referencing the tv series should probably be corrected. I did not do that as I cannot prove they did not come up with the name independently (doubtful but possible) When someone searches on 'asleep in the deep' they should understand it is a moderately famous song, not an episode of some forgotten britcom.

Perhaps you should suggest how lyrics should be handled?

Casey at the Bat for example basically says nothing much more than who wrote it, and posts some external links. More or less what I did.

I posted a reference to the song with a sound file, what more is necessary. I do not know for sure it is a song. I could have been a poem that was later adapted as a song.

I think the original tv series article, that fails to credit the song, is more of a problem as it does not credit the song writers and therefore presents incorrect information. Geo8rge 08:25, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I just shuffled some pages around, so now Asleep in the Deep is a disambig page that gives a table of contents of different meanings, and each meaning is on a page whose title reflects that specific meaning. Even putting (song) in the title goes a long way to explaining what it is.
The Asleep in the Deep (disambiguation) page, that never really was a disambig page, is now no longer needed at all. You might want to request that it be deleted, probably tagging it with {{Db-g6}} and explaining "accidentally created with wrong name" or somesuch is sufficient.
If there's info missing from the sitcom page, you'd have to work with other editors on that page. Discuss on its talk discussion page, or be bold and add a sentence about it if you're comfortable enough. DMacks 15:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
