Contradiction

Bagratuni Dynasty, Medieval Armenia and (indirectly) Template:History of Armenia all give 861, not 862, for the year when Ashot was recognised as prince of princes by the Abbasid caliph. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 17:32, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

The death of Ashot I is described in Hovhannes Draskhanakertts'i's History of Armenia (p. 130), which tells of Ashot dying of natural causes. This is most likely as this is coming from a contemporary of the times. Whence this story of Ashot being killed on the battlefield, at such an advanced age and in the arms of the Catholicos no less, is beyond me, but I have a feeling I have to take a look at Grousset's volume and find what, if any, sources he cited to support such a statement.--Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 18:27, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
