OK, the last time I tried to post enough content for this article it was flagged for copyright infringement re content on the lab site that I manage for Dr. Goel. Now the article is being flagged for not having enough content. Since Dr. Goel is called out specifically on an existing page (Watson (Computer)) it seems justifiable that a short bio page should exist. However, I apparently can't put too much info or it gets autoflagged for coopyright issues. What is the happy medium?

Thanks! -R Arpieb (talk) 13:53, 10 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Take a look at the notability guidelines for academics. If he meets those criteria, the page will be approved. I'm not convinced that the mention in the Watson article is enough to justify a biography page, as plenty of people have used Watson to create things and plenty of those folks don't meet the notability guidelines. The issue isn't a length problem so much as it is a content problem - the article needs to demonstrate that he meets the guidelines for inclusion. --Blueclaw (talk) 14:15, 10 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Here is Dr. Goel's full bio page on the lab's website - I'd say he qualifies on several points in the notability guidelines for academics (editor, holds multiple positions as Director or Co-Director, well-published, active in academic and professional conference committees, presented at TedX, etc ad nauseum) and Georgia Tech is not exactly an unheard-of institution. I would like to flesh out the bio to ave more content in line with what other faculty @ GT have amassed over the years, but I'm trying to stub for other people to be able to contribute as well. Look more closely at the guidelines - yes, Georgia Tech is a well-established institution, but he doesn't appear to be a distinguished professor or hold a named chair position. I also don't see anything on his bio about being an elected fellow of a professional society, being the head/chief editor of a major publication, or receiving any awards from an international society. Most professors give presentations and are active on committees, but this doesn't make every professor notable enough for inclusion. As it stands, there's no compelling reason to include this article in the encyclopedia. --Blueclaw (talk) 14:50, 10 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
According to AAAI's AI Magazine, he is the current Editor in Chief and served on the editorial board for several years prior. Additionally, his Jill Watson virtual teaching assistant has generated quite a bit of interest in online learning and is actively being used in Georgia Tech's OMSCS program as well as being prepped for use in a general-purpose CS course on EdX (which I would think would fulfill making advances in higher education). Alright, that's more compelling. If you rewrite the article to highlight this information, that should justify removing the notability tag. To remove the resume-like tag, take a look at the pages for Stephen Cook and John M. Hollerbach to get a sense of what kind of information should be included. --Blueclaw (talk) 15:33, 10 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for the help! I'll get that done shortly. Arpieb (talk) 15:46, 10 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Currently working with Ashok to get biographical information, will have the updated content in place with citations/references/external links in the next few days. Arpieb (talk) 18:44, 18 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Please note: being editor-in-chief of a magazine is not what is meant in NPROF#8... The news coverage may mean that Goel meets WP:GNG, although a first sight, this may be a case of WP:BLP1E. --Randykitty (talk) 13:50, 11 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
