Interview with All News
editIf you watch this interview, you can see how he describes Muslims, not exactly helpful for peaceful purposes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aoI4M9oABU Veryscarymary (talk) 08:50, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
lacks section putting the buddhist side
editUpon reading about Wirathu in Wikipedia, I couldn't help to notice that it is never mentioned, nor here, nor in the 969 movement article, how his sermons and actions are largely criticised and rejected by buddhists, and how they relate to buddhist scripture (the teachings are directly opposed to what he preaches and practices). This gives the impression that he really is representative of buddhism and what the buddha thaught. Along history, many people (often outsiders) have used religion and ethnicity as jumping platforms to mobilize masses for political purposes. Wirathu is nothing but that figure, performing that trick, and should be treated as such, otherwise, we just reinstate this cycle of religious ignorance where the mistakes of both parts are ever-present "reason" for our bigotry. I hope the articles incorporate such notions, for the sake of Wikipedia's responsability as a high-traffic public resource. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.69.175.248 (talk) 17:57, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
This is very true! Harper04 (talk) 19:54, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
True. As of 2019, it still seems wikipedia article fails to accurately represent the widespread Buddhist condemnation of this man's work inciting violence, hate and greed. Db919 (talk) 03:34, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

- I have come specifically looking for that in 2023 and it is not present. 38.141.223.147 (talk) 02:28, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
Reconsideration of neutrality issue
editIs there any opposition to removing the neutrality tag? If so, please explain why and improve the article if possible. Thank you Akhi666 (talk) 23:20, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- I think its fine to remove it. -- haminoon (talk) 01:14, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Bad translation
editThe article states that "kalar" is a derogitory term for muslims, referring to some news sources. I am a native Burmese speaker and I can tell you that it is absolutely neither derogatory nor a term for Muslims. "Kalar" is a neutral and informal term for Indian, or someone from the Indian subcontinent, irrespective of religion. We have a term for "Muslim" but it's literally just that, "muslim".
Also, it states that Wirathu called a woman a "bitch". That part is 100% false, he called her "kaung ma". It is a rather unfriendly term for a woman, yes, but it's outright falsehood to translate it to the English "bitch". "Bitch" would be "kwae ma" or she-dog.

Misplaced irony?
editHello, I've just edited the "Arrest" section of the article. Il feel like the following sentence is ironical and may not have the correct style:
It appears that, in general, high ranking monks have built-in legal protection against arrest...
However, the end of the sentence adds to the comprehension of usual habits. May someone with a better knowledge in en Wikipedia editing rephrase/add the proper user warning/do nothing. Mathieu Perrin (talk) 18:09, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
