I've started an article on Dr Arthur Raistrick. I am acutely conscious that I have missed much out and that others who kenw him or his works will have much to add. I'd be interested in discussing with anyone anything they feel I've missed out or got wrong. Slioch 14:34, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

An article on a close relative might easily become a candidate of WP:AFD. I sincerely hope that will not be the case here. Arthur Raistrick was an important pioneer of Industrial archaeology. As is inevitable with a pioneer, some of his work has been overtaken by later research by others, but they built on his work. In revising this article, I have added something as to his work on lead, which is also important (though dated in parts). I still regularly refer to Dynasty of Ironmasters in preference for nore recent works on the family. Peterkingiron 23:13, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have attempted to wikify the article with sub-headings. I have brought out references from the body of text and started a bibliography based on those works which are refered. I echo Peterkingiron's comments and hope that the article does not fall prey to WP:AFD. Continued edits by third parties should deflect most adverse comment but the soundest defence is to cite all stated facts from published sources. Each paragraph containing a coherent unit of information should have its own citation and Croucher (1995) is a good start. In particular, his comments to Harold Wilson need some back-up - was Raistrick's reply ever published or do you have a copy of his correspondence? Thanks for the much needed improvements. I had meant to come back and work on the page myself, but got badly distracted and never did so. Yes, a copy of the Harold Wilson letter is in my files. On the OBE, his wife, Elizabeth [also a published geographer and historian] never quite forgave him for denying her the trip to Buck House.Slioch 02:44, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I expect that there is a carbon copy on file in some governemtn office, which may (if not weeded) turn up one dat in The national Archives. I think that his appearance in Oxford Dictionary of Natioanl Biography (though I have not checked it) should be sufficient to save this from an AFD. Peterkingiron 21:36, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just checked the DNB-the reference is Oxford Biography Index Number 101049936. That is one expensive site to subscribe to! Managed that on a Google without parting with any cash. Slioch 13:24, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
