I was also under the impression that the stink had subsided (Again, personal anecdotal information only (Sorry), having been there for a few days in 1964, and most of 1974-1976). Is there any information on the intensity over time? Terry Thorgaard (talk) 13:20, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
- I just added an Associated Press article that refers to "Tacoma Aroma" in the title. That's the name I've heard for many years. Stylus Magazine [1] (2005) said it's locally called "The Aroma". Brianhe (talk) 21:11, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Is the aroma gone, or still present? edit
A KNKX (Tacoma public radio) piece from a few days ago says "many say some version of [the Tacoma aroma] has lingered" [2], though arguably it has been improving since the 1970s. It's premature to put it in the past tense. ☆ Bri (talk) 18:49, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I do think the lede is now slightly out-of-step with the history section. The Seattle Times piece about the closure of the paper mill says: "The odor has subsided in recent decades, especially after a nearby smelter closed its doors in the 1980s — though Korsmo said you can still find it if you sniff closely enough.
- “There are definitely days on Ruston Way where it smells a bit off,” she said, referring to the nearby waterfront street. “But I’m told it’s nothing like what it used to be.”" We can wait for more official/formal sourcing definitively saying something like 'the tacoma aroma is a thing of the past' or similar.
