Varaz Samuelian, Armenian artist and sculptor, wrote this on page 167 of his book "Varaz, History of Armenia and My Life" published in 1978:

In 1973, I went with my Mr. Aram Zipper,a retired Armenian to the city of Armenia, Columbia, in South America. There I cut and erected a memorial monument expressing the thanks of the Armenian people to the people of Armenia, Columbia, for so naming their city to memorialize the 1895 massacres of Armenians by the Turkish Sultan Abdul Hamid. The dedicatory text was written in Spanish, English and Armenian.

There is a phot of the sculptor and Mr. Zipper standing by the memorial monument.

This should set the record straight on this matter.
