Performance history

Dean (vol 2, p305) puts the start of the twentieth century revivals of Ariodante (barring a production in Stuttgart in 1926) at 1959, drawing attention to a BBC broadcast with Janet Baker (conducted by Arnold Goldsborough) before 1963, and the first British professional stage production since Handel's death at the Barber Institute (with Baker and conducted by Anthony Lewis) in Birmingham in 1963. The BBC broadcast the opera again, in a new studio production again with Baker and conducted by Anthony Lewis, in the 1970s, before the issue of the Leppard recording. Updating is suggested.Delahays (talk) 16:17, 16 October 2012 (UTC) (Delahays)Reply

I'd say to just go ahead and add/change the text as you suggest and add the inline citation to Dean. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 16:29, 16 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks - I'll do so when I've got an exact date for the earlier BBC broadcast under Goldsborough.Delahays (talk) 22:54, 16 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

X created the role of Y

edit

Hello there, What is it to say that somebody 'created the role of', e.g. 'Giovanni Carestini, who created the role of Ariodante'? Thank you. M.H. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.124.108.4 (talk) 09:12, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

That's the normal way to say that someone was the first ever to perform that role. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:24, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
