Obsolete configurations etc edit

I think it might be useful for the article to cover a greater historical range pre-MARPOL, e.g. discussing the classic tanker configuration with midships house, its origins and why it was superseded. However, there may be a case for covering that in History of the oil tanker (which currently doesn't say much about general design issues after about 1900) instead, though that would mean renaming this article "Architecture of the modern oil tanker" or something similar. Devanney, J. as source edit

Devanney seems to be only source on this and other Wikipedia tanker articles critizing double hull/double bottom/other recent MARPOL-designs. Googling provides he is MIT faculty member, as well as tanker owner and operator. Question is, is Devanney really reliable source, in a way that everyone else in MARPOl-community (structural/maritime engineers etc.) has it wrong in engineering and Devanney knows better anyone else? Many of his claims are based on single book (The Tankship Tromedy: The Impending Disasters in Tankers) authored by single person, Devanney and there seems to be no other studies / references to support his claims?
