Jean, Lady Saltcoats edit

I am not convinced that Jean was married to a laird of Saltcoats Castle, as suggested by the addition made on 10th July 2020. The armorial stone of the builder, Patrick Levingtoun of Saltcoats, now mounted over the front door of a nearby ruined cottage, probably came from over the door of the castle, and the date must be 1592 (the second digit crudely recut as a 3) records the initials PL and MF for Patrick Levingtoun (various spellings) and his wife Margaret Fettis of Fawside. This would be about the time that Jean, nee Douglas, had her children. I suggest that perhaps it was perhaps a Saltcoats, Ayrshire family she married into. Meanwhile, I acknowledge that her brother, as mentioned, was a Douglas of Whittingham, also situated in East Lothian just a dozen miles from Saltcoats Castle. Or perhaps Margaret died early in the marriage? Shipsview (talk) 18:02, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
