First German Immigrant to Hold Elective Office in the State of Illinois

edit

This claim is made regarding Hesing in Early Years, with a citation to his obituary. If it's the part of the obituary that is continued on page 3 of the newspaper, I'm not able to access it--the link goes to page 1 (is there a link to a clip of the rest of the obituary on page 3?). Regardless of how it's cited, this claim is incorrect. Gustav Koerner, for example, was elected to the Illinois State House of Representatives in 1842 (he emigrated from Germany in 1833). I don't know whether he was the first German immigrant elected to state public office (he was the first elected to the state legislature), but he was certainly elected before Hesing.
