Victim's name

The online versions of Britannica 1911 have the victim's name as Madame de la Mothe, and so it was here when the article was originally created (consisting solely of the Britannica text. I suspect this is an OCR error. This page has it as Madame de Lamotte; the page cited under external links has it as Madame de la Motte. The last strikes me as likeliest, and I've edited the article accordingly. I've also added information about the public and intellectual reaction to the case. Time warp

"He was originally sentenced to life in prison, but was retried after the Revolution and was condemned to be torn asunder alive and burned."
