The Idea of this page

edit

There has been some debate on whether this page should exist or be a redirect. Please share your opinions. User: Malik Shabazz can you explain what you mean when you say "Wikipedia is not a dictionary" before you delete this page as you have done before. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mangokeylime (talkcontribs) 00:03, 6 September 2015‎

User:Malik Shabazz has been retired as a Wikipedia editor for some weeks. If you wish to request a rationale, I'd suggest going to User talk:Ogress, the talk page of the editor who recently reverted your changes with the edit summary you quoted. For my part, I think the page is totally original research and in its present condition, doesn't belong on Wikipedia. I have no doubt some racism is directed at Caucasians ("Everyone's a Little Bit Racist"), but as the article stands, I can't see a reason why this shouldn't be nominated for deletion, or redirected back to Racism. Arguments for this not being a Redirect

edit
  • I agree that anti-white discrimination is a small problem but I suggest it at least has a small page. The page Anti-Mongolianism is much larger than the page Negrophobia, I believe the second should have a larger page but I don't know the background. Just tell me what I need to do to keep this page up for more than five minutes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mangokeylime (talkcontribs) 03:26, 6 September 2015
  • The previous page was basically a history page for Black supremacy. Perhaps we could change it to be just the dislike of european peoples? Not specific groups or just a remake of the page Anti-Europeanism This page should also not just be a rehash of the Reverse racism page aswell, if I find some books some respected sources, may I attempt to establish this page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mangokeylime (talkcontribs) 19:12, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Arguments for being a Redirect

edit
  • To have a stand-alone article, we'd need to see substantial coverage of this topic in particular in reliable sources (e.g. in academic journals, books published by publishers with a reputation for fact-checking/peer-review/editorial oversight, etc.). If those exist, there's still a question of whether it's a topic already covered or better covered in another article. So it would have to be more than an assemblage of examples and types of such sentiment that other articles already cover, and it would have to be significantly different from those other articles. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:35, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Name of the page

edit

Some have professed the idea that prejudice towards White People does not constitute as "racism" should we change the title to something like "Anti-White Sentiment" or perhaps take out the "White" part? A better name may be "Anti-European Sentiment". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mangokeylime (talkcontribs) 00:11, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Redirect to the category

edit

Instead of being a redirect to racism, should this just be a redirect to Category:Anti-white racism?Mangokeylime (talk) 19:33, 22 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Propose deletion of "Anti-white racism" redirect page

edit

"Anti-White Racism": There are no articles that link here; it can safely be deleted: What links here. Would there be any objections to nominating this article for deletion? K.e.coffman (talk) 23:41, 30 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Tree points to consider:
  • (A) there is a non-trivial Category:Anti-white racism;
  • (B) until recently the redirect pointed here, i.e, Anti-European sentiment (and IMO this target is much more proper); oops; we don't have this article. Oops back: What's the deal?
  • (C) google books has quite a few hits for the term. - üser:Altenmann >t 02:59, 31 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

It could be merged into anti-Western sentiment, due to general topical overlap. Any "anti-white" sentiment is by necessity "racism" (inasfar as "white" refers to a race), so the title is a little tautological. I find that the best-developed coverage on the general topic at present is at anti-Western sentiment, so it might be best to build on that. There is also "reverse racism", which is a term rather particular to race in the United States, and afaict just a political neologism, not an actual "topic", but it should be checked for possible scope overlap.

It has always been the case de facto that all our "racism" articles are overwhelmingly focussed on US politics, simply because the US is the largest English-speaking country and also has a multi-racial society (and significant racial tension in recent times). In this sense, "anti-white racism (United States)" might possibly be a US-specific topic, where, as far as I can tell, genuine anti-white racism is a pretty recent, and rather interesting development (with roots in "black power" ideology in the 1970s, I suppose, but only now entering mainstream consciousness, so a lot of bickering and edit-warring is to be expected here). --dab (𒁳) 14:22, 26 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

New redirect

edit

I've redirected this page, "Anti-European sentiment", to point to Anti-Europeanism as an alternative name or associated term. The previous list of topics was attempting to be a DAB page, with an indiscriminate list of prejudices against individual countries that happen to be part of Europe. Only Anti-Europeanism and Euroscepticism could really be called "Anti-European sentiment". Both articles have a hatnote linking to the other, so a DAB page seems unnecessary per WP:ONEOTHER. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 23:03, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
