1. Page 56 of the article "Dollar Daze of 1921" in Coins, October 1999 said "Late in 1921 the Commission of Fine Arts held a design competition..." However, I believe this was a misprint and "1921" in this quote should be "1920" and that was the date used for the Wikipedia article. FieldMarine 00:04, 8 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually the quote is accurate and the 1921 date is correct, specifically, November 19, 1921. The sculptors had only three weeks to submit their design. Production commenced a month later on December 21, 1921; between then and the end of the year the mint struck just over a million coins. They were released to the public on January 3, 1922.
